Turning trash into fashion

If you're taking out the papers and the trash, she might not be far behind you.

A Clifton Forge woman is making a fashion statement by taking what was once disposable, and turning it into something pose-able.

On News 7 Saturday morning, Joy Sutton talked with the woman behind the new Hollins University "Trashion" exhibit, Catherine Smith.

Among the items she's created include earrings made out of Coca-cola and Sprite cans and swatches made from grocery bags.

Her goal is to make people more aware of what they're throwing away, all the while making the discarded items more exciting and interesting.

Catherine Smith's "Trashion" exhibit  starts April 4th and runs until May 22nd at the "Wyndham Robertson Library" at Hollins University. For information call 540-362-7465.
