Free dental work offered in Roanoke for those in need

Fifteen dentists from all over Roanoke pooled their resources up to help more than 110 patients in one day. Fifteen dentists from all over Roanoke pooled their resources up to help more than 110 patients in one day.

The Bradley Free Clinic and the Roanoke Dental Society teamed up to provide free dental work for those who couldn't afford it.

Fifteen dentists from all over Roanoke pooled their resources up to help more than 110 patients in one day.  From simple check ups, gum disease, tooth decay and pulling teeth, dentists say they are happy to provide the free service.

"You can imagine a lot of people have gum disease.  While it doesn't necessarily hurt, it can cause bone loss and actually jeopardize the health of the tooth, and it just makes me feel good that I can help people preserve the health of their teeth," said Dr. Gavin Aaron.

The event, coordinated by the two organizations, and the help of Doctor Richard Joachin, comes after Mission of Mercy group's annual free dental clinic weekend was canceled.  But the group plans to reschedule the event in 2010.
