The first Roanoke Tattoo Festival made its mark at the Hotel Roanoke.  The festival kicked off Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday.

Some say it's art, and that art is collectable.

"I wanted to get work done by world-renowned artists, not just anybody on the corner," says Roger Belliveau.

Those renowned artists were brought to our corner, for the Roanoke Tattoo Festival at the Hotel Roanoke.

"All these artists come from all over the country and all over the world," says tattoo artist Monica Moses.

The tattoos, custom inked by the visiting artists, help cultivate a personal collection.

"You could say, 'I got this guy from Spain to do my tattoo,' or, 'I got this guy from Ireland to do my tattoo,'" says Moses.

But the artists benefit from each other, too.

"For me, tattooing is a process of learning constantly," says Hector Cedillo.

If the weekend's events prove successful, organizers hope for another one next year.
