Governor Kaine's travel as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee has generated criticism from Republicans, and plenty of negative press, but Thursday his focus was on the Roanoke Valley.
Kaine started out the morning on the Roanoke River Greenway, joining about 75 cyclists on a five mile bike ride between Wasena Park and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
He also toured the Roanoke City Market, during a day-long visit that highlighted the environment.
"People get that it's not just good environmental stewardship, that if we do a better job with stewardship, it's also good for the economy. If we attract tourists, we use less energy, we save money, so there's a whole series of ways that doing what's right environmentally is also good for the pocketbook and also good for the Commonwealth," said Kaine.
The Governor wrapped up his trip to Roanoke with a news conference downtown. He congratulated members of the Clean and Green Business Coalition, a group of local employers who are demonstrating that sound environmental practices can also be good for business.
