This goes all the way back to 1979 when Keith Hawkins was a senior at Tech.
One weekend, he visited Roanoke College for a fraternity party and lost his class ring while playing football.
He went back the next day but couldn't find it because it snowed six inches.
Fast forward thirty years later.
Bob Schupe was grading for a new walkway on Market Street when he saw something shiny in the dirt.
It turned out to be Hawkins' class ring from all those years ago.
"30 years, yeah and it's obviously been underground. I've got two teenage boys and my sixteen year old said, 'Dad, I think it's a fossil' and I said 'Well, not really, but sorta I guess," says Hawkins.
Schupe traveled to Suffolk to return the ring to Hawkins.
He says the ring is actually in pretty decent shape.
