The all-woman's school is opening its first new residence hall in 50 years.
"Green Village" isn't your typical dorm. The $3.5 million complex was built to resemble an off-campus apartment building. Each unit has plush features like a flat-screen TV and a front-loading washer and dryer.
On the roof, you'll find solar tubes that funnel in natural light. Residents say it's a rare luxury for a college campus.
"I like how it's more independent. It's good to have a washer and dryer inside. With the two stories, it feels like you're living on your own," said Alicia Modzelewsei, junior at Sweet Briar.
"We want them to have a chance to cook on their own, as opposed to having a traditional meal plan, have a little more independence, and make the leap to the 'working world'," said Sweet Briar Vice President for Finance & Administration Paul Davies.
Green Village will be home to 60 women at Sweet Briar.
