Pain relief and weight loss, a look at the infrared body wrap

After her first infrared body wrap treatment at Classic Image Day Spa Clinic months ago, Melva was hooked.

"Rejuvenation is what this is for me and the warmth it's wonderful," said Melva.

This technology heats the body from the inside out.

"So your body is working very hard to cool itself off. So it thinks that it is exercising. You're going to sweat profusely and burn about 600 calories," said Bebe Ball, Infrared Technician with Class Image Day Spa Clinic.

Tammy Jordan says she noticed a difference in her appearance after her first treatment.

"I noticed my cellulite is shrinking in the back of legs. When I put my jeans on my butt is not real tight anymore it's comfortable," said Jordan. 

"The infrared energy actually gets up under the fat cells and stimulates cellular metabolism and detoxification, so that cells release stored fat, toxins and fluid," said Ball.

The therapy is also about pain relief for some clients.

"Found my muscles are less tense...my neck has been much more relaxed, "said Leigh Ann Campbell.

But it may not be safe for everyone.

"If you're pregnant, do you have a pacemaker, are you a hemophilic or are you taking any drugs that say right on the label may increase sensitivity to heat," said Ball.

News 7's consulted with local doctors about the treatment. While none of them endorsed the wrap, they weren't against it, if it makes the patient feel better.

The doctors say there aren't enough large studies to scientifically prove the health benefits.

But these clients say they know how they feel.

"I feel like, I'm nurtured like an infant,  like a baby wrapped in a blanket, said Melva.

The cost for one session at Classic Image is about 75 dollars, but it's cheaper if you buy a package. The first treatment is $50. For more information you can call the spa at 540-776-8255.
