How far could you sail in a boat made of cardboard and duct tape?
That's a challenge students at Sweet Briar College tried to solve Thursday.
Seven women in the Engineering 110 class have been testing designs for the last few weeks.
Thursday, they raced their boats in the annual Cardboard Regatta.
Their task of finishing an obstacle course wasn't met.
All of the boats sank in the first few minutes, but students say they enjoyed the assignment.
"It's a big Sweet Briar tradition. Everybody in the school seems to be really excited. Everybody's coming down to see it, so it's fun to be a part of that," says Casey Dyckman, a freshman at Sweet Briar.
Medals were given for best design and the boat that stayed afloat the longest.
Participants capped the event when they all jumped in the lake.
