Jo Ellen Parker was inaugurated today as the school's 10th president.
Parker comes to the Amherst County all-women's college from the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education in Michigan.
She arrives at a time when many single sex schools are being forced to go co-ed.
Parker has attended and taught at all-women's schools - and says she has a plan for keeping Sweet Briar's female tradition alive.
Parker is taking the reigns from Elisabeth Showalter Muhlenfeld, who retired after 13 years at Sweet Briar.
