Octavia Johnson wins re-election in Roanoke City

There will not be a new sheriff in Roanoke City.

The incumbent, Republican Octavia Johnson, won re-election in a three-way race, by about 140 votes.

By the time Johnson was declared the winner, shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, many of her supporters had left at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood, but some of her family remained to congratulate her.

She believes her experience put her over the top.

When asked what she makes of the fact she won by such a small margin, Johnson says it was because there were three candidates in the race.
