Centra is partnering with Lynchburg College and Central Virginia Community College to build the Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning.
The facility will give 85 students a chance to learn techniques in fields like nursing and physical therapy. It will be located at Centra's Lynchburg Family Medicine in the Plaza Shopping Center, where students will learn from Centra doctors while treating simulated "mannequin" patients.
"Through computer technology, we program the mannequins to simulate real life health care problems or emergency type situations," says Patti McCue, Centra Senior Vice President.
The new lab will cost more than $600,000, part of which is being paid for with a $200,000 grant from the Virginia Tobacco Commission.
