James River vs. Fort Chiswell (11/13)

The fans in Wythe County were jacked up as James River came to town tonight for the Region C, Division II opener with the Pioneer District Championship in tow.  The Pioneers were rarin' to go Friday night as they come out fired up.

James River was on the move early though. Jordan Talbott dumps it off to Ian Johnson on the swing pass. He makes a man miss, before fumbling the ball. But the Knights center Daniel Draper says look what I got. Draper recovers for the touchdown, and James River led 7-nothing in the first quarter.

But Fort Chiswell coming right back. Will Freeman connects with Hody Viars on the eight yard slant. Viars scores to cap a drive that was kept alive by a James River penalty, and it was 7-6 after the point after was blocked.

Brandon Garrette padded the James River lead though, with the answer. He's going 35 yards, breaks a few tackles and heads to the zone. The River was smelling the upset up 14 to 6.

It took Chris Rodriguez a while to get going. But in the second quarter, he gets it going. Rodriguez cuts all the way back across the field, picking up a block. C-Rod had almost 300 yards rushing in this one. The touchdown and two pointer tied things up at 14-apiece.

To the third quarter, more Rodriguez.  He's taking it 54 yards on another score.  Rodriguez gallops to paydirt and Fort Chiswell had a lead it wouldn't give up, 24 to 14. But they weren't done yet.

It was 31-14 in the fourth when Viars finishes things off, breaking all kinds of tackles, bulling over defenders. Viars scores again. Fort Chiswell takes out James River tonight 38 to 14. They'll get a rematch with Chilhowie next week.
