New River Valley landowners could get forest facelift

New River Valley landowners who have a forest on their property may soon get help giving it a facelift.
The Extreme Forest Makeover was outlined on Thursday in Grayson County.
Landowners must have ten or more acres of forest land to apply for the program.
They can be located as far west as Washington County and as far east as Giles, Floyd and Montgomery Counties.
The goal is to implement sustainable forest management activities like planting trees in pastures, boundary line marking and prescribed burning.
The program is funded through a federal grant.
The landowners selected will hold regular meetings at the Matthews State Forest Office in Grayson County.
