UVa medical student dies in Utah cave

A UVa medical school student died early Thursday morning after being trapped in a Utah Cave for more than a day.

Authorities say 26-year-old John Jones has family in Roanoke.

He was going down a narrow part of "Nutty Putty Cave" head-first when he got stuck.

The group of family and friends with Jones tried to free him but soon realized they needed to call for help.

At times up to 50 rescuers were involved in trying to free him.

While they were able to reach Jones, he was wedged into the small hole too tightly to pull him out.

Two people have been trapped in this cave before, but this is the first time someone has died.
