Members of Roanoke City Council are making progress in their search for a new city manager. And Mayor David Bowers says they're on track to make a decision by the end of the year.

City Manager Darlene Burcham is due to step down March 1, and council hopes to have her replacement on the job before she leaves.

The consultant who was hired to coordinate the search has forwarded a list of semi-finalists to council members.

"I'm impressed with the finalists.  And so I think council will hopefully, over the next couple of weeks, come together and have a city manager selected by Christmas," said Bowers.

The city's consultant has said the goal is to have the new city manager on the job by mid-February.
