Crews with the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department helped five hikers lost on a trail Saturday.
A woman hurt her ankle while hiking along the Dragons Tooth Trail. Her boyfriend left the trail and knocked on a nearby house to call 9-1-1 while three friends stayed with the woman.
When he got back to the group, they attempted to hike out carrying their injured friend because it was getting dark. They then became lost.
Crews searched for six hours before finding the missing hikers.
Roanoke County Fire and Rescue wants to remind hikers to carry a cell phone or compass, enough food and water supplies to last in case you get lost, and to dress appropriately for the weather.
