Mike Scott paced the Cavaliers early.
He was getting it done in the post and Virginia led by six at the break.
But Taylor Battle had a game Monday night for Penn State.
He finished with 30 points on the night to lead everybody.
Virginia fell behind inside the final 10 minutes, but Sammy Zeglinski tried to rally the troops, banging home three points from the top.
Zeglinski had a chance to tie it late with another deep three, but he was off the mark and Penn State knocked off the Cavs by a final of 69 to 66.
