A Smith Mountain Lake group is trying to put the brakes on boaters. The Water Safety Task Force recommends establishing a speed limit of 55 during the day and 25 miles per hour at night.
Task force members also want more deputies in surrounding counties and more officers and funding for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
The task force was formed in September after Lawrence and Judy Lewis of Moneta were killed while boating on the lake. It will hold two more meetings, one on November 7th, the other on December 5th.
