Deer sets off accident on Interstate 81

A deer caused a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 81 and tied up traffic for more than hour Wednesday evening.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. near the Dixie Caverns exit in Roanoke County. According to State Police, the driver of a Chevy Suburban was northbound when he ran into a car that had stopped on the side of the interstate. That car had hit a deer and had pulled over to check the damage.

The two women in the car were injured. One was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle, David White of Raleigh, North Carolina, has been charged with reckless driving.
