This is in reference to your report on AEP increase......

As if the energy crisis wasn't bad enough for all of us what with the gas prices soaring....now AEP has to get on the bandwagon and start gouging the prices. It just isn't fair that they have a monopoly on Electricity. We in Giles County are struggling anyway because of businesses closing....now we learn that AEP is raising their prices. Now we have to decide if we want power or food on the table. When will congress stop allowing this gouging of our energy sources. Can't Virginia get another company in here to supply power to us. My brother lives in South Carolina and he is shocked at the price we pay for electricity. We need a choice on vendors. Of course AEP will continue to raise their prices as long as Congress lets them. Its time someone stood up for the little man and did something to help us out. We American citizens NEED a bailout too. After all its OUR money that was used to bailout the banks. And now they are going bankrupt and will not have to pay that loan back. Wake up Congress and help the citizens that put you in that plush seat you are in and do your job.

A faithful WDBJ7 watcher.....

referring to your "X-Mas too early", we as a nation observe significant "ups"- birthdays, holidays, I believe that the "Pearl Harbor" invasion should be remembered as a somber day (in U.S. history), I choose to honor the lives lost as well as the heroics of that fateful day in our past before I can get into the "holiday spirit". I wait until after Dec 7th & as it is a choice, this is mine! Thanks for your time. I won't wish "happy holidays or merry x-mas" to anyone yet!

On November 14, 2009, my family and I traveled to the site of this years Northwest Regional Division 6 Playoff games at Liberty/Bealton High School to cheer on our Franklin County Eagles. Much to our enjoyment, the Franklin County Eagles scored an exciting last second victory over Colonial Forge High School to advance to the next round. If Franklin County had been the only team from our area to play at that venue, your noticeable absence at the game and lack of coverage would have been almost forgivable. Being that all three AAA teams from our Western Valley District (Franklin County, G. W. Danville, and William Fleming) played at that site, I found it absurd that there was not even as much as a camera crew from your station at the game.

Furthermore, your lack of acknowledgement of Franklin County's first every State Playoff win on that nights sportscast seemed to me and other Franklin County supporters as an obvious snub to our football team and its success. As the Eagles prepare to face No. 1 seed Battlefield High School this weekend in Northern Virginia, we can only hope that WDBJ 7 will send a crew to cover the game considering Franklin County is the only team from our area left in the AAA Playoffs. Go Eagles!!!!!

Sincerely,

Was listening to the early show , and It has upset me so , that I had to write. My heart and my prayers go out to the little girl , Shaniya Davis and her father and aunt . I just can't understand how a mother could sell her beautiful little girl to a child pornography ring. I know there is evil in this world, and people kidnap children, which I can't understand in it's self, but for a mother to sell her own child to something as horrible as this, is just so cruel and incomprehensible to me.. It has hit me so deeply and I fear very much for that little girl. If her mother needed money so badly, then she could of done porn herself , not put her child in that horrible position . She is not a mother in my eyes but a evil, evil person, She has no compassion for anyone or anything in this life. She is willingly, and without any feeling ,destroying her own daughters life. I would fight for my children if anyone tried to harm them in anyway. My sons are 26yrs.old and I would still do everything I could to keep them from harm .

Please let the father know there are good and caring people in this world, that care and are very concerned about his baby girl. I pray with all my heart that she is returned to him safe and unharmed.. Let Him know that people in Va. care !

I do not like your new weather format as it pertains to New Castle. It no longer includes the expected low for the night. During the winter it is often more important to know the expected low as opposed to the expected high. You used to be a leader in the area. Now you are just following the rather poor weather format of channel 10. Just maybe, if New Castle is not important enough to include the expected nightly low, Channel 7 is not important enough for the people of New Castle to watch anymore.

While watching your 11:00 p m newscast Saturday night I thought I heard the newsreader say that the passage of the health care had narrowly been defeated. Having just watched C-span and its passage I was surprised but not greatly. Your news show is not very good any more. There are too many glitches, from the wrong video being run with a story, the wrong image projected behind the newsreader, wrong captions being used with videos or bad grammar being used by the newsreader. You seem to think that graphs can substitute for good news reporting, but mistakes in your graphics just point out the obvious.

Your news shows are not as good as they used to be. We want information not mindless chatter between you staff. We want more local news. We can get national news from other sources, like the internet or MSNBC, ect. You need to take a long hard look at what you are delivering to the viewing public and try to regain the quality you had before people like Jim Shaver were let go, or let someone take over who can to the job. ( If I just misheard the report on Saturday night the rest of my discussion still applies.)

I think it is disgusting that someone would pose to have cancer for money my mother is dying of cancer there is nothing else they can do for her but give her medicine to make her more comfortable she has never asked for money or anything even though she is having to pay for her health insurance out of her social security check and her medicine because insurance will not cover it this woman ought to think it comes back on you ten folds!!

The new bus changes were indeed sent home today and the change was for the worse. When you call Mountain Valley for answers, someone looks at a paper and says "sorry Ma'am, that's what's on my paper too." What kind of answer is that? You call the school and they have no answers either. What kind of answer is that? Somebody needs to get it together.

I would like to comment on all of the news stories and talk about the William Fleming SOL scandals and Susan Willis. As a 2008 graduate of William Fleming, I can say that I am personally tired of all the negative energy that always seems to surround the Colonel atmosphere.

Why is the Roanoke City School Board paying so much money on a grievance hearing for Susan Willis, when the out-come of this all, is she will be fired. She can never return to Fleming and expect people and the community to trust her as their leader. As a student that she was a principal over, I can say that Susan Willis should have never been principal to start with. She was nothing but a manipulator, a dictator, tyrant, and a bad leader. I have personally watched her treat students different, and look down upon certain students, because their family income was not to "her level". She treated students as if they were scum, because they "weren't good enough people" for her to associate with. Instead of building a better school environment, she did nothing but tear it apart even more. And if she really cared about her students, then she would see all the money she's having the school system put towards a hearing, that she will still lose her job from, and have it towards educational tools for the school. I remember many of times how tight our money was at Fleming, and how the students would20 have to hand copy worksheets, because the school didn't have any money to buy paper. And now when they just lowered the schools budget even lower, the School Board is hundreds of thousands of dollars on this. I think it is a shame that someone can be this low. Susan Lawyer Willis, (as she made her call her), should never be allowed to lead any school, especially William Fleming. She is a disgrace to this school, this school system, and to the Roanoke Valley. William Fleming students, facility and staff members, parents and alumni, should be all focusing their attention to the new start of William Fleming, with our new state of the art facility, instead of wasting time on playing games with this woman. William Fleming is such a great school. Fleming has a bad history, and is not being able to move to a better future. It's just that William Fleming, has to live down the reputation on past events, and its keeping the school spirit from moving forward. I've attended schools from all over this area. Including school systems as Roanoke County, Salem City and Bedford County, and I can say that there is no other school I would have rather graduated from than William Fleming.

The students have so much to offer the world that come from Fleming, they just need a new and better leader as principal. In my opinion, the right person for the job is none other than Ruth Claytor. She was my =0 Ahall principal when I attended Fleming, and she was the only person I could trust with my issues. When I talked to her, I felt as if I had a voice and she listened. She treats ever student fairly, and with dignity and respect. She is a well trusted and highly looked upon leader in the Fleming community and is the right person for the job.

It's time to put the light back on our students and school, instead of having to focus on the darkness that Susan Willis has brought to this community. It's time that the Colonels of William Fleming, be able to be judged by the work they have preformed, and not by the bad leaders they have received.

We are on the outside edge of your coverage area in Afton (Nelson County). We watch Channel 7 via satellite every night and appreciate the coverage broadcast to our area.

In a feedback comment a couple days ago, someone wrote: "Everyone is down on Obama because he is black..." or some reasonable facsimile of that comment.

I don't think most people care about his race, which is physically not entirely black. The 1960's are long gone and civil rights were won for color and gender!

My objection to what is happening in MY country focuses on an ideology that is far more ominous!

The president is a self-avowed socialist - read his own words in his published books! He is "leading" this country into socialism; that will evolve, as historically seen, into communism. At that point 95% of "We the People" (working Americans) will be required to support the other 5% (the political officials at the top), and we will have NO rights as we now know them.

Being a black president is no big deal - being a communist president is a president of another color altogether!

The first line of your feedback page states "We welcome your emails on issues in the local news or local news coverage". Since the firing of managers Jim Shaver, Jim Kent and multiple reporters from your previously excellent news department, real local news and local news coverage has been mostly missing from your newscasts. If I want to see national news and constant bombardment by Obama stories, I will tune in to the network news, yea right. I know it is much cheaper to take the reports from the network rather than paying to send reporters out for stories of local interest. It is bad when the lead off story for your morning newscast is the ridiculous David Letterman and his self promoting guest. How I long for the good old days when we had a real local television newscast.

Hello from Bland County Virginia, we would like to comment on the extreme inaccuracy of weather forecasting on WDBJ 7 lately. All week last week according to WDBJ 7's weather predictions the weekend would be nice and sunny, so we cut our last cutting of hay. Then on Sunday morning the forcast changed to a 20% chance of rain. What a joke. We had buckets of rain. While we recognize that weather forcasting is just that "forcasting" where is the evidence that any scientific methods for accuracy are employed by your meterologists? So the outcome is, at least 2 fields of hay lost or at least severely damaged because as farmers we relied on what we heard on TV. We think from now on we will rely on woolyworms or just look out the window, the prediction will be as accurate.

Sincerely

I was very disappointed not to see any news coverage of The Taste of the Roanoke Valley Food Expo put on by the VA. Cooperative Extension at Greenfield Rec. Park in Botetourt Co. 8/14. This was a very important event for local food producers in this area and it received no coverage from any local station ( rke times was there and public radio ). If you use the phrase " hometown station " stand by that and cover important local events , not just festivals and cook offs. There were local farmers there from all over this area and they need their names out there. The public needs to know that there is a local food movement in this area and we need your support. I work the night shift at a local company, and with my DVR I have recording the News7 @ Eleven every night and watching it upon my arrival at home, usually around 12:00AM. Well on Thursday night I arrive home, ready to watch my news 7 and what was the lead off story, "Michael Vick, signs with the Eagles". Please this is not headline news and does not belong as the lead off story on your eleven o'clock news. This is sports and belongs at the end of the broadcast, which I never watch anyway and not at the front of the newscast. No more Vick news please. Most of the general public could care less about Vick. So for now, I am going to change my DVR, to get that other channels news at Eleven.

While what Michael Vick was horrendous, he has paid his dues; nothing he can say or do can bring those animals back. Give it a rest already. There are many other NFL players who have been arrrested/convicted for much worse things (i.e., murder, drugs, etc.) and have been given another chance. It makes you wonder if some people don't value an animal's life more than a human's.

The news story about the attitude of the Cave Spring community concerning the transfer of the Roland E. Cook students absolutely disgusts me.

We wonder why school shootings and suicides are so prominent among our youth, well this is a prime example of how it happens.

Bully parents raise bully children to treat people who are different as trash who should be tossed aside like they don't belong.

I wonder how the religious leaders where these parents attend church would feel about their reactions?

I've been taught and raised that we don't have the right to judge and we are all equal. Wonder what kind of skeletons would be found in their closets?

These parents need to get their noses out of the air and realize what message they are sending to their children..

It is very disgusting that Governor Kaine spent a half million dollars of the taxpayers money to bus people to the presidential inauguration and now he is saying that he might have to lay off state employees because we need to cut the budget. . OK so the economy is going down, getting worse right. Well if it is so bad then why is it that AEP is allowed to have rate increases 2 times a year? Those of us who are doing what we can to pay our daily bills now have no choice but to figure out how to pay even MORE to have lights, heat, and air in our home. What can we as a community do to stop what these company's are doing? If you ask me they are only making it harder for the average family to make it today!

In regards to VDOT Closing a number of Rest Areas, I am a Salem Va. native I now live in Tennessee, I do not like some of the laws down here or the lack thereof, but They have companies bid on keeping up the rest areas, such as in Jefferson County where I live Goodwill industries maintains the rest areas. I just wondered if VDOT considered this. I think this is a good idea that would take the so-called burden off of The State of Virginia. Seems like to me Virginia should be doing things to encourage Tourism within the State not discourage it. The Tennessee welcome center on I81 from Virginia to Tennessee puts the welcome center into Virginia from Tennessee to shame. That is one thing that VDOT could learn from TDOT.

I would like to comment on the proposed amphitheater at Elmwood Park in Downtown Roanoke getting killed due to budget constraints on the city. This is a fabulous idea. Maybe this will even give the people on the council enough time to think about how to do this right. Roanoke loves to be the biggest little city around, we have an art museum that cost millions of dollars that nobody goes to that is basically an eye sore. Now this bad idea from the get go gets terminated. If you're going to do an amphitheater do it right. At least give the concert goers that live in this town something to be proud of.

Don't build something or not build something and then later on wish you had or hadn't. the example of not doing anything is interstate 95 that runs through Charlotte, NC. It was originally slated to go right through Roanoke but the powers that be voted that down, now look where it's getting them.

I want to comment on the complaints of all the coverage on Michael Jackson. Of course you would expect the NEWS Media to cover any and all of the news on such a major entertainment celebrity. Michael Jackson was the greatest performer of the 21st century. He earned his title King of pop because he was the most brilliant performer of all times. Yes there were other Kings, Elvis, he started rock n roll and we all mourned his death at such a young age. Michael was not only a singer, song writer. and actor. He wrote songs from the heart that reached out to all people it did not matter whether you were black or white, young or old. His songs said something to us all. He had moves like no one else. He gave so much to charities and wanted to help the hurting. Something he knew so much about. We have known Michael for 45 years. A president only spends 4-8 years as our President so yes you would expect Michael to get more air time he has been part of our lives for so long. You can not tell me that someone has not been affected by him. His funeral alone let us know that God is always there for us. As for the comment that someone wondered if Jesus Christ would get as much air time I pray that most of us would not be here.

OK, Michael Jackson is dead and buried. Can we get on with life?? For the life of me, I can't understand how a so-called "Super Rock Singer" can get so much coverage. Guess if you are into drugs, child molesting, porn, you can get anything you want. I have never seen any coverage of any type when a Southern Gospel Singer dies. why is this? Oh yeah, they aren't important, just out there spreading God's word and saving lives. I wonder when Billy Graham dies, will he get National Coverage???? I doubt it, after all he is doing God's work, not setting an example for your young children to drink, take/sell drugs, rape victims, have "dog" fights, or play football, etc. What has happened to America??

Something has been bothering me for several days. Maybe you can explain it so I can understand.

What is the difference in fighting chickens to the death and fighting dogs to the death. Why does the guy in Bedford ge charges reduced to misdemeanors and Michael Vick goes to prison. I don't support Vick...

OK....I am either confused or disappointed. I just saw the story about Donte Stallworth. Why did your report even try to compare this case and punishment to Michael Vick's case and punishment? Everyone you questioned had the same "duh" look on their faces when you asked their opinion to the comparison. As everyone said, it is comparing apples to oranges. Lets see if I can help you out. Donte Stallworth's case had DUI, work zone and death. Does this compare to dog fighting and gambling? Nooooooo! Now lets try to think of a better comparison. Maybe even a local event that people are familiar with so you do not get those "duh" looks when you ask their opinion. Hmmmmmmm.......  Does Tracie Nininger and Jeff Dupree ring a bell? I hope so. I believe something needs to be done with regards to SOL testing. I learned over the weekend that a child who received all A's and B's on their report card all year long will not be going to the next grade. Why? Because they failed an SOL test. Now, if he/she goes to summer school and re-takes the SOL and passes then they can go on, but otherwise they will be repeating their current grade. How ridiculous is this????? If this is the case then why do we bother sending our children to school for 180 days? Why not prep them for two months on the SOL's and be done with it? A child is not going to put forth much effort to learn if they know that none of it matters! Only thing that matters is the SOL test.

We were told this is the requirements of the "No Child Left Behind" program. If a school accepts money from this program that the students must pass SOL's to advance to the next grade. Well, seems to me that if a child is an A/B student but has a bad day and fails the SOL and is told you must repeat this grade... that child is being left behind! I can see many students just giving up and quitting school altogether.

I have been surprised by the opposition to the Boy Scout camp site. While I am not keeping up with the debate and do not know the facts of the planned site, from what I have read, it seems unreasonable to oppose it.

Every development or business seems to be hotly debated when proposed. I can see the problems with the prison, the new Wal-Mart next door to the old one, the meth clinic, the new business in Elliston/Shawsville (?), but a Boy Scout camp? It seems that would be akin to being next door to a state park. It would entail development, yes, but overall would be minimal compared to most anything else. And any rough roads, I imagine would be far better than a super highway.

If the Boy Scouts were to come in, they would be in for the long haul, I think this would help preserve the stated area for quite awhile. The Boy Scouts are an exceptional group with impressive core values. Where I live, I am surrounded by up and coming developments and would much prefer the Scouts in my backyard than most any other organization.

This is in regards to your recent story on the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Hearing the news about the memorial may be in need of closing is not acceptable. I did have a feeling of sympathy for the work the employees do, until reading about the salaries that they bring in. I am saddened and appalled at the lack of news coverage given to the Rolling Thunder event. This has become just another uninterested event that is lucky to get a 5 second review. The reason behind it, and the effort put into it by Military Veterans only amounts to a bunch of flashy, noisy motorcycles.  It is become a forgetful event just like the thousand of Vietnam's Veterans that were forgotten by the Govt and the American people. Shame on channel 7 news for not taking the time or effort to indulge in the past, present, and future of Rolling Thunder. From what I understand, there was an armed robbery this afternoon in Christiansburg. As a result, there was an apparent lockdown of my neighborhood. I learned this "through the grapevine" from a neighbor who attempted to leave his home and was instructed by police officers to go back inside his home and lock the doors. None of this was reported by any of the local media. It seems to me that this type of incident should be reported to the residents as a safety measure.

As part of your community service, please ensure that the example you set in grammar is correct.

We are losing touch with prepositions. In a report on the need for a new bridge near Narrows, your reporter said that the bridge "needs replaced" rather than "needs to be replaced" or "needs replacing."

Similarly, in this season of commencements, I have already heard a number of examples of people "graduating high school" rather than "graduating from high school."

Please hold the bar for civil communication high for all of us, especially the younger viewers.

It is amazing how Cox Communications has spent a considerable amount of money to renovate their facility, they now say that they are laying off workers! They also tell us that they want to be more competitive? Why is it that Cox is the only cable service in this area and why are customers not able to go to the "other cable" companies for service.

It would appear that Cox has gained a monopoly on cable service in this area. You are charged a fortune and you still see the same programs over and over. It would seem to me that Cox would be more concerned with greatly improving the quality and quantity of the service it gives to its customers.

As for the layoffs, maybe you should take that new extension down brick by brick, cash them in and maybe those facing layoffs can keep their jobs. Maybe the customers at Cox that have to pay enormous bills for service can cash those bricks in and pay their bill, too

Unfortunately or fortunately, I must use Cox because the area where I reside, only uses Cox. My alternative, cut the cable off and look at "snow" for the duration!!!

Anyway, it is a shame that some will have to lose their jobs for a company trying to be competitive. Does this mean that the customers will get a discount?????

I have watched the ongoing news about US auto makers and have the reoccurring thought......anyone with half a brain could have told you years back..........the buyers have shown that they want a quality car, why not move in that direction before the bottom falls completely out. Make it affordable too and......... waa laa..... a car that will sell. I recently had hope anew when they entered bankruptcy that I might still yet have an opportunity to buy with a good conscience towards my country and wallet, an American made car. Now at last that hope is gone. Cutting off dealers that have been in partnership with them for 30 years and leaving them holding the bag with their inventory is the last straw for me. It may be legal but it doesn't make it morally correct. I was appalled to find that Duncan Jeep in Blacksburg was on that list. If anyone has been selling Jeeps, it's got to be them. Look at the new building they built! Was that not commitment? I don't feel that the BIG 3 have learned anything throughout this process. Their leadership continues to show that nothing matters to them except how many zeros are added onto the end of their own personal paychecks. My hopes of ever buying American are gone. Hanging out their dealers to dry has got to be an act of the lowest of the bottom feeders. Buy an American made car.................No thanks.

Recently you aired a report that the VDOT would not be mowing as frequently this year. In fact, here in Floyd that's been true a number of years, the infrequency of mowing that is.

My concern is in the safety of motorist who are put at risk by in lack of roadside upkeep. Here in Floyd and throughout Virginia the deer population has exploded. I use to think that motorist were not paying attention if they hit a deer. After hitting two last year, one in my truck and one on my motorcycle (which I survived with only a broken leg and separated ribs) I realized my assumptions were all wrong. The fact is the road side cutting is so poorly done it is impossible to spot a deer before he jumps out in front, unless the animal is already in the road he will not be seen. At interstate speeds, which it was reported will only be mowed three times creating a perfect graze for the deer, the fatalities will rise in deer related accidents.

Our State has failed us already by allowing the deer population to expand to epic proportions (this through poor game management practices) and now through poor road side upkeep the State has failed us once again. I for one think the deer populations should be controlled by the

countians who have to contend with the

deer and not by some bureaucrat in Richmond. Perhaps the same is true of road side maintenance and the tax dollars for road up keep should be returned to the county of origin.

I would like to see some news reporting agency do an in-depth piece on the two problems I have sited above. They are interrelated that is clear and the deer population is still growing further and further out of bounds.

Sincerely,

Robert McNabb

On Wednesday, May 13th, there was a baseball signing ceremony at Hidden Valley High School for three baseball players, Nick Ferguson, Thomas Kuhlman, and Scott Stilwell. There were several reporters and two TV stations covering the ceremony. I am very proud of all three of the young men for their achievements in school and baseball. They conducted themselves very well, answering questions and getting their pictures taken. I wanted to tape both television stations interviews so I set my VCR to record channel 10 at 6:00 pm and channel 7 at 11:00 pm. I was very disappointed to see that channel 7 did not see fit to play the interview at the 11:00 broadcast therefore I do not have a copy of that interview which I was told interviewed all three players. I noticed at both 6:00 and 11:00 broadcasts last night (May 15) you played an interview with a William Fleming football player. I guess football will always trump baseball in your eyes. A part of my son's life was not able to be recorded thanks to your choice on May 13th.

I have a question, why doesn't the police department monitor vehicles running red lights? This morning is yet another example of an innocent person being injured by someone in a careless hurry. This morning near Tangelwood a vehicle was T-boned by a vehicle running a red light. How many people have to be injured before the police department cracks down and starts issuing tickets? I travel each morning from Salem to a business near Tangelwood and it never fails that people run the red light on the corner of Apperson where Sheetz is. We had a co-worker that was out for nearly a year because she too was T-boned due to someone carelessly running a red light. We also have another co-worker who is now presently out for surgery on her hand because, yes, her vehicle was hit by someone also running a red light. Enough is enough. Instead of the police department trying to catch speeders they need to start cracking down on violators running red lights.

I wish to make a comment about your story on the new ‘system' Roanoke City is going to implement to catch people who are late paying their personal property taxes. (May 7th and 8th, 2009)

As long as there are bills and taxes, someone somewhere is always going to be late, for one reason or another. Yes we all have an obligation to pay our taxes, but I don't think the majority will be late on purpose, and with the economy being what it is now, more and more unfortunate people will be late.

I wonder why now the City Treasurer's office mentions that if people are late, they will set up a payment plan with the customer. As long as I have been paying taxes, I have never seen this option offered. Perhaps if this ‘service' had been offered in the past, consumers could pay on time or not too late, but heaven forbid that the Treasurer's office not get some extra money from late fees and such. What is the catch- a huge penalty along with a service fee?

I would like to comment on the arrest of Gary Chisom and his horses.

He had around ten cows on property near our house and farm.  They would come through the fence on the rented property to our farm, and walk around in our yard and deposit their waste.  They would go to the smokehouse behind my deceased parent's home and lick the wood on the building trying to get some salt.  They even pulled down some of the logs on the smokehouse trying to get to the salt.  Gary Chisom would come when we called him and herd the cows back down to the farm he rented and they would stay there a day or so.   They would come back again and again and he would not do anything about the fence or give them salt and food to keep them on the rented farm.  One or more of the cows even went on the highway on State Road 718, Dry Fork Road.

After many complaints with the Pittsylvania County Animal Warden and the Pittsylvania Sheriff's Department, Gary Chisom  was finally  summoned to court in Pittsylvania County and told not to bring anymore cows into Pittsylvania County.  He drives a tractor trailer truck and he does not need to have any animals to take care of.  I felt so sorry for the cows trying to find grass to eat and to see that they were not taken care of.

Sincerely,

Id like to point out a few things about the officer that ran his car in a ditch.

First off it was a Town of Vinton officer that totaled his car when he ran his car in a ditch while driving it home from work.

Seems to me tax payers need to be asking how much it is costing them to fund "Take Home" vehicles for all of Vinton officers to drive to and from work ever day.

Oh and this was the second Vinton officer to run his "Take Home" vehicle in a ditch one his way home within the last 6 months. The other car just wasnt totaled and didnt seem to make the news.

Your newscast today on 7 @5 mentioned that Obama was going to crack down on companys that take "illegal" tax advantages or "loopholes". I want you to know that there is nothing illegal about these 'loopholes' Geithner and Obama use the word 'loophole' to convey the idea that businesses are cheating. A 'loophole' is a law. Every tax deduction is a 'loophole,' but the premise that people like Obama start from is that all money is Washington's money.

When will you, the media, figure out that Obama is expanding big government, taking over the private sector and yes, eventually you guys as well. You better start doing your job and be objective, investigate and question this administration or you will permantly be it's "mouthpiece." Or is that the case already?

On the story about the Roanoke officer who crashed his car into the ditch.

Yes it was a minor accident, and to my knowledge no-one was injured, however I take offence to the fact that the officer is not being charged.

Were that an "average" citizen there would have been at least one charge for FAILURE TO CONTROL YOUR VEHICLE. This officer should also be charged, or the charge should be dropped for other such "minor" offences. Or is it that they are above the law, even in this?

I heard Kimberly McBroom state on the morning newscast this week that 90% of all guns seized in Mexico comes from the United States. I would think that you would better check your facts instead of just parroting something our idiot secretary of state spews out of her mouth. It is about 17% according to the facts I have which came from among other places FOX news along with several articles written on the subject. Why would the drug cartels go to the trouble to smuggle large amounts of semi automatic weapons when they can buy fully automatic from many other countries? I know that like most media outlets you are liberal though not near as bad as the Roanoke Times but at least do a little home work next time before making your newscasters look foolish. It was good to see Natasha Ryan give the facts concerning the Tech shootings that the guns were not purchased from a gun show when that subject came up in your newscast. It was a terrible tragedy but there appeared to be numerous opportunities and justification to show Cho as a menace to society that was never followed through properly. I like your newscast especially the weekend crew and hope in the future you will check your facts a little closer.

I am a resident of Buchanan and was shocked at the lack of responsibility of the Mayor and his staff concerning the water system. Now he is on vacation and the residents are not getting assistance as they should be. My understanding is that the Mayor is the one who has to request assistance from the State and Federal Governments. When the Mayor gets back from his vacation, he needs to resign, along with any of his staff who knew of this situation, then the Commonwealth's Attorney needs to have them arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment of all citizens of Buchanan who have been exposed to the e-coli infected water that he has known about for a year. The businesses in the town are suffering and will do so for some time, the festivals held here will suffer also. The Mayor needs to go!!!

I was a little disturbed by the story on the 11 o'clock news this evening. The Family Restaurant may have had a slow day today, but on Sunday it was business as usual. My family went there to eat to support the businesses because we felt that some folks may avoid the restaurants due to the ridiculous panic that the water problem has caused. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was busy. In addition, as I understand it, the water and drinks they have bought they are SELLING. It is not convenient, but it's not like they aren't making money on what they are spending.

I don't live in the town but am associated with a church and a business there. We've had to make adjustments like everyone else, but it is what it is and just make the best of the situation. As far as folks' water bills not being adjusted, when you think about the water one physically consumes in their home compared to the water used in their home, I'm sure that it is a very small percentage. In my home, far more water goes down the drain than goes in my body. I know some people were fussing that they couldn't drill their own wells. Do they not realize that they could just as easily have the same problem in their own well as the town is having with theirs? At least the town is required to test the water, most people with a well never have their water tested unless they have a problem or when they get ready to sell their home.

As far as the mayor being on vacation this week, other than going to people's homes and boiling their water for them, I don't know how his actual presence in the town would make this situation any better. I've talked to several town employees and council members in the past week, and I know they are doing all that they can to make this situaton better. They do LIVE in the town and have to deal with the same situations in their homes as everyone else that lives there. I can't see how the mayor cancelling a possibly pre-paid vacation can possibly make a difference in this matter. Unfortunately, no one can wave a wand and make a new filtration plant appear over night.

I would like to comment on the proposed amphitheater at Elmwood Park in Downtown Roanoke. I have been a longtime concert goer, I'm 34 now and have been going to concerts since I was 9-10 years old. So the idea of an amphitheater in Roanoke is great, BUT let's face the facts here people, there are 2 Civic Centers that are barely minutes apart and they are sitting dormant for the most part.

I had to laugh when I heard on the news April 6th that the amount of people this was slated to hold was 5000, give me a break. Yet again Roanoke City Council has the right idea but wrong execution.

If this town wants to get big name acts coming here & I'm not talking just Keith Urban, I'M talking U2, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band etc, if you want acts like this to come and generate some real income for the city they you will need more than a 5000 seater. The Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA seats 20,136 people & the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in VA Beach, VA seats 20,000 people and lastly Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA seats around 64,000 people.

Now my suggestion is that Roanoke (City & County), Salem, Botetourt & Franklin County all come together if at all possible and here's a novel idea FIND A PIECE OF LAND BIG ENOUGH for what it is going to be used for & I don't mean where Victory Stadium was because that is a flood plane. You want the big boys to play here and keep coming here than this is what needs to be done, not something in downtown Roanoke, we already have a multi-million dollar museum that nobody could care less about, lets not short change the music lovers either.

I would like to comment on the recent attack on the character of Dr. Gregory Alouf. I was thoroughly disgusted with this report. It was completely inaccurate reporting to the public which is really sad considering the public will feed into any crap that you put out there for them to feed on. I typically do not watch channel 7 and now I know why.

It was extremely tacky the way that Mr. Humpty disguised his visit as interest in the new building that his practice has moved into and then attacked him with issues that were personal to him. While it may be a matter of public record, it is really sad that there is a Doctor or should I say an "undisclosed source" out there with nothing better to do with his time than to turn his colleagues into channel 7. It was very obvious that this was a "turf war" for the plastic surgeons in this piece. Really all that they did was make themselves look really petty and sad. Maybe they should take a moment to consider that if they didn't waste so much energy trying to make themselves look good then they would not make so many mistakes with their own patients. Dr. Alouf I'm sure has had to correct a few of their mistakes a time or two and never ran to any news station to broadcast the skeletons in their closet.

Furthermore, there was incorrect information given to the public in this piece. They stated that there would be another court hearing for Dr. Alouf in August 2009 to follow up on the situation involving narcotics. Good luck waiting around at the court house in August to follow up on this story. It was completed August 4, 2008. Maybe next time Mr. Humpty, or should I say the wolf in sheep's clothing, will do his homework before going along with a personal attack on a prominent business owner just to make one of his "friends" happy. Or maybe his Doctor "friend" could just grow up. I might also recommend learning how to pronounce Aesthetics and Fraudulent.

Also, I would have to wonder why the other 60 some doctors with reprimands weren't put on the 6:00 news under investigation also. I hope that the public will be smart enough to do their own investigation and check his website or just call Dr. Alouf to find out about his credentials. Not only does he do the work he is also a teacher.

I certainly hope that some type of retraction will be reported on this matter, with the full story, not just a one sided attack on someone. Maybe in the future Channel 7 won't jump the gun and deliver an incomplete story. How would you feel if someone showed up at your home or work with a camera in your face asking you about something that was part of your private life? Keith, you wouldn't want everyone to know what you do in your down time, now would you?

Dr. Gregory Alouf is a kind person. Anyone who knows him would say the same thing. I know of more people that were disgusted by the report because of channel 7 not because of Dr. Alouf. I would venture to say that you have lost quite a few viewers due to this report.

I was very disappointed in the story on Dr. Greg Alouf, it bordered on tabloid television which is no real surprise since it was a Keith Humphry story.
Dr. Alour is a fine physician that I owe my son's life to. The fact that Dr. Alouf is human and had a problem over two years ago should not be the basis for a Keith Humphry witch hunt.
With all that is going on in this country, you find it necessary to dredge up mistakes a man made over two years ago and has since taken the necessary steps to correct his mistakes and paid for those mistakes. Obiviously this entire story was to attack one man as the other doctors mentioned were not interviewed or named in this story.

I for one applaud Dr. Alouf for seeking treatment and correcting mistakes he may have made in his life, Dr.'s Wray and Silverblatt, along with keith Humphry should learn that blowing out someone elses candle certainly does not make theirs burn brighter.

I thought WDBJ held itself to a higher standard than to air tabloid style stories and reported the news instead of making the news by taking cheap shots.
But now I see otherwise and feel certain this letter will not air either

I have watched WDBJ7 all my life and have deep respect for Keith Humphrey. However I must make a comment about the recent blindsiding of Dr. Greg Alouf. I realize that all great news reporters experience at least one major gaffe in their careers, and so, Mr. Humphrey, I think you just had yours.

First, to bring to the public attention something that Dr. Alouf has worked very hard and admirably so to put in his past, is deplorable. I, by no means, condone drug addiction, but how do you expect a person to pull themselves up and go on with their life when you, the media, exploit this for a sensational story. Where is the compassion here? I think you owe Dr. Alouf an apology for possibly hindering his recovery AND depriving the public of a wonderful physician. This kind of exploitation does nothing to address and help the ongoing problem of prescription drug addiction which is rampant in the medical field. Thanks to OSHA rules, constant threats from JCAHO , hospitals and doctors trying to make profits and cover themselves legally, and the patients wanting the best of care (which they deserve and why we are all here), the healthcare profession has to do a tightwire act to keep everyone happy. It's an impossible task for the best of us. Add to that personal tragedy and life in general and it's a making for disaster. This exploitation of Dr. Alouf is just wrong on so many levels.

Second, I don't know how much training a person needs to do aesthetics, but have you ever heard the saying, "Lots of book learning, but no common sense". I think this applies here. All the formal training in the world cannot make a good doctor. It gives the basics of procedures, but the doctor himself is responsible for his work and ongoing education. Dr. Alouf never claimed to be a plastic surgeon. You put that into the minds of your viewers, insinuating that he was practicing beyond his scope. Dr Alouf is a very compassionate, knowledgeable and competent physician. As a former patient of his, I can tell you from experience how truly remarkable he really is. I chose him as our family doctor out of the hundreds in the Roanoke area, for a reason. And I would do so again. The only reason I no longer see him as a physician is because we moved out of state. As a healthcare worker, I've seen up close and personal, how doctors function. The most well educated, well trained physician can botch a procedure if he/she doesn't have the talent, the art or the compassion that Dr. Alouf possesses. So I hope the public, when choosing a physician, will look more deeply than just credentials when making a choice of physician. Because a piece of paper hanging on a wall does not a good doctor make.

I was very disappointed in WDBJ 7's coverage of the Radford University budget forum. Your news station reported that dozens of students walked out because questions had to be submitted through writing and read by a moderator. In reality, hundreds (not dozens) of students and faculty walked out, because we were being disrespected and silenced by our school president. We walked out, not because we had to submit questions through writing, but because the questions we HAD submitted were not being read. The majority of student, faculty, and staff questions were NOT answered-- and when students questioned this policy, our school president rudely informed the crowd, "I get to choose the questions. You don't"

I'm very disappointed in the WDBJ7 news coverage of this forum. At a time when the students, faculty, and staff of Radford University most need the support and endorsement of the local media, you failed us. Our school president was extremely rude and unprofessional, and students were disrespected and denied a voice-where were these clips?

I thought your interview with Dr. Greg Alouf was very informative in alerting the public that all doctors are not qualified to practice any and all aspects of medicine. Your first sentence refers to Dr. Alouf as a cosmetic surgeon. He is certainly not a Board Certified Surgeon and I would bet he has had no formal training as a surgeon. Anyone that is thinking about having surgery whether cosmetic, plastic or general should research the credentials of their surgeon to make sure they are Board Certified in that specialty. Please, if you are thinking of cosmetic or plastic surgery, ask your surgeon if he is "Board Certified in Plastic Surgery".

My name is Seth Clark and I want to talk about the interview that Keith Humphry and WDBJ 7 conducted about Alouf Aesthetics. After watching the report on Dr. Gregory Alouf I was disgusted to see how little it had with pertaining to his qualifications. If he has the certifications to pratice cosmetic surgery in the state of Verginia, then what was your story about?

The only information that I got out of the story was that Dr. Carol Wray, and Dr. Enrique Silberblatt are upset that there business are not doing so well, and they are mad that Dr. Alouf's is doing well for himself. So they are trying to portray Dr. Alouf as an under qualified cosmetic surgeon. Which only seams to the educated people watching your interview as complete propaganda

Mr. Humphry did you by any chance ask why the other surgeon were so concerned with Dr. Alouf? If he is Practicing with in his boundaries what is this story all about?

Maybe if the other surgeons worried about their oun business and not Dr. Alouf's , Business they could be successful like him.

The question that Mr. Humphry asked Dr. Alouf about his past drug issue was completely out of line. Mr Humphry would you go up to the former president George W. Bush and ask him about foregin policy, then ask him about his prior cocain usage?

Do the people at WDBJ7 have anything better to write about then the slander of a successful man?

I'm a returned Iraqi war Veteran I served 6 years in the Military, 320 in Iraq, I was pulled out of college to fight the war on Iraq. I had to pay for my college, and my apartment that I was renting at the time I was pulled out. My contract said 100% tuition assistance I did not get it, I was told that the soldiers and sailors act did not apply to me. I had to pay for $800 in gear to go to war, and when I returned I drilled at my unit for 8 months and never recived any pay. Then when I went back to college, after I was out of the military hopeing to get some ade for being a veteran, and risking my life for this country I was denied college benefits.

Why don't you write a story on that?

Think about all the Veterans out there that this has happened to, think about the people that are makeing it safe for you to continue writing your yellow journalism. Then stand back and take a good look at your self.

Though I will never defend a physician's misuse of prescription medication, I was disappointed by the malicious angle with which your news organization approached Dr. Alouf. Was the story about his cosmetic practice or his legal infraction? Either could be considered news, but the combination gave the appearance of an assault on behalf of some disgruntled plastic surgeons.

I am the first to recognize the expertise of a board certified plastic surgeon and while a formal residency training program is absolutely necessary to provide the full spectrum of cosmetic surgical procedures I would disagree that a 6 year training program is what a physician requires to perform a safe liposuction procedure. Many of the less complicated cosmetic procedures are as much art and finesse as surgical expertise. I have been interested in cosmetic work and the optimization of the cosmetic appearance of my surgical procedures since beginning my training in 1993. I practice within my abilities and I include limited cosmetic work in my practice simply because I enjoy it.

I constantly review the before and after photos of cosmetic surgeons in and outside of our area. I have yet to find that my work inferior based upon these advertised results. Perhaps you should have allowed Dr. Alouf the opportunity to provide examples of his work rather than berate him for discovering his interest in aesthetics after completing his formal medical training.

This is not intended to minimize the loss of Coach King but only to point out what I feel are terrible moments of injustice. When a person enlists in the military they sign a blank check payable to US the citizens for up to and including their life. However when many of these brave souls return injured or sadly, dead not too much is made of this by the media but we find the time to embellish local notable's with many pages of print and hours of visual commentary. I am appalled at your lack of ability in doing true investigative reporting. It doesn't exist.  You toe the party line when ever, particularly when the Police are involved.  It makes me mad.

You have reported that the Trooper involved shooting here in Floyd county was determined to be a righteous shooting. Pure hogwash is what that is for anyone with the sense God gave a Billy Goat. The Trooper could have simply stepped out of the way if he felt endangered by the fellow in the truck. Cattle farmers up here step out of the way all the time if an ornery bull or cow tries to run them over. Farming is more dangerous than being a police officer so please don't justify it by that response. (Check the national statistics on dangerous occupations if you don't believe me.)

It was after all a private drive. The victim, and yes he was a victim of abuse of force, was correctly reported as suffering from bi-polar behavior. It seems that anyone who is deemed different by the tyranny of the majority (and the majority changes) is fair game for abuse. The marijuana found in this incident smacks of trying to justify an unjust act. The Trooper should at least be tried for involuntary manslaughter by a jury of his peers here in Floyd County.

I am a mail carrier in a rural community we had to fight for a 1.5% raise, then after last mail count(this is what we do to evaluate our routes as each piece of mail has a time value) we lost that raise and more, because the Postal Service can hold mail, hide mail, and put it on trucks and run it up and down the interstates so we won't have it to count. Mail count begins again Febuary 14th,2009, and now they are using the economy as an excuse when our pay is cut again, I don't mind a pay cut if is needed, but hiding, holding or all the other things they do to cut are pay borders on slavery. When they let you get enough mail, say, to make 7 hours a day and you have to work 8 or more to get it done, sounds like slavery to me.

The 39% raise the PMG got was last years, wonder what he will get this year.I also wonder if he would give his raise back and more to help out the postal service?

Please if this is printed or put on air PLEEEEEEEEASE do not use my name or town as I fear retalliation, even though this is America, and we are supposed to have the freedom of free speech.

We have been talk in about budget cuts across the board. Now they are effecting our children. When we talk about budget cut and pay cuts. Why doesn't anyone bring up what our government officials make. It is probably a salary of at least 4 teachers. We need to bring this out!!! They are requiring caps on auto company's and the banks that we bailed out. We probably would not be in this situation if it wasn't for our government letting our fuel prices get up to $4 a gal. If not printed Please at least get this out in a interview or when questioning our government officials. Thanks

Isn't it something! Sorry kids, you can't go to your usual school due to budget cuts they are being closed. Sorry kids you are being crammed to 50 per class because of budget cuts we have to fire teachers. Sorry kids you have to walk to school but because of budget cuts we cant afford to pay busdrivers...etc. BUT.. on the other hand we will take you swimming at the new 30 MILLION DOLLAR rec center! It is so much more important than your education anyway! And on the way to the rec center we can stop and take pictures of all the new flowers and pretty mulch being put down all over the county... its important that Roanoke look good, not that you learn! This is the message being sent and I know I am not the only one feeling this way! As usual wasteful spending all over and where it is needed most, that's where they cut!

Smoking... OMG!! Give me a break with this issue already! Banning you from smoking in your car?! Banning you from smoking in your own home?! If the government wants people to stop smoking so darn, bad than quit selling them! Oh wait.. can't do that, they get too much money from cigarettes! Talking about trying to get the economy back but they want to ban smoking in restaurants and actually have the nerve to say yes, it will hurt some businesses but .... BUT WHAT? How is hurting businesses, making them close going to HELP the economy? This use to be land of the free. We keep going the Government will be running how and when we use the bathrooms!

How refreshing not to mention reassuring to see that no local Medical Centers were on Forbes list of the best providers of medical care, guess if we want good care valley residents need to go to Lynchburg, or if they are full we might try Harrisonburg, Winchester, Richmond or northern Virginia. What a shame, and after all the money some of our local administrators are paid.

I APPLAUDE THE ROANOKE CITY SCHOOL BOARD FOR THE TOUGH DECISIONS THEY ARE HAVING TO MAKE,IT IS NOT EASY TO DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO. I KNOW FOR A FACT DR. RITA BISHOP SUPERINTENDENT AND DAVID CARSON AND ALL OF OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ARE NOT SLEEPING AT NIGHT, PARENTS IN ROANOKE CITY NEED TO STOP COMPLAINING TO THE SCHOOL BOARD AND OFFER ANSWERS. THE PARENTS NEED TO CONTACT THEIR LEGISLATORS IN RICHMOND AND TELL THEM TO, VOTE NO TO CUTTING EDUCATION FUNDING. AND CONTACT ROANOKE CITY COUNCIL AND TELL TO KEEP THERE WORD AND GIVE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM THE FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND IN EXTRA FUNDING THEY PROMISED,THE SCHOOL BOARD IS DOING IT'S BEST TO MAKE CUTS THAT WON'T EFFECT OUR KIDS FIRST THEN STAFF THEN OUR SCHOOL BUILDINGS. IF WE HAVE TO CLOSE A FEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS TO SAVE OUR STAFF AND SAVE OUR KIDS QUALITY EDUCATION THEN SO BE IT, AS A MEMBER OF ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS CENTRAL COUNCIL (PTA) PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION I UNDERSTAND IT WILL BE A LONG HARD ROAD. BUT WE NEED! TO GET BEHIND OUT SUPERINTENDENT AND OUR SCHOOL BOARD AND HELP US AND THEM FIND SOLUTIONS. I WAS A BIG SUPPORTER OF GOVENOR KAINE WHEN HE RAN FOR GOVENOR AND THAT WAS BECAUSE HE WAS ALL FOR EDUCATION AND PRE-K NOT HE WANTS TO CUT IT I GUESS HE IS DR. JECKEL AND MR. HYDE. THE CHILD, REN OF ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS HAVE THE GREATEST STAFF AND TEACHERS AND AS A PRODUCT OF THE ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS I STAND BEHIND OUR SUPERINTENDANT AND OUR SCHOOL BOARD THEY HAVE A TOUGH JOB TO DO AND ALOT OF TOUGH DECISIONS TO MAKE, BUT IT WOULD BE ALOT EASIER IF THE PARENTS AND STAFF WOULD GET BEHIND THEM AND GIVE SUGGESTIONS
AND HELP. AND PARENTS JOIN YOUR PTA AT YOUR SCHOOL TOGETHER WE ARE ONE VOICE AND ALOT OF VOICES TOGETHER WORKS BETTER THAN 1 SOLO AND PTA HAS A STRONG PRESENCE IN RICHMOND.
SO AGAIN I PLEAD DON'T GRIPE TO THE SCHOOLBOARD AND MRS. BISHOP OFFER UP SUGGESTIONS AND OFFER TO HELP.ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS ARE STRONG,AND HAVE THE BEST EMPLOYEES IN VIRGINIA I WOULD PAY HIGHER MEALS TAXES AND ADMISSIONS TAX TO EVENTS AND OTHER THINGS JUST TO HELP OUR SCHOOLS.

I can't understand why people keep blaming the gun show laws for the reason what happened at Virginia Tech. The reason he was able to purchase a gun was because his medical records were not allowed to be looked at. If this would have been looked at he would have never be able to purchase a gun, but his rights prevented this from being listed with the State Police. These people need to look at the real cause of what happened instead of trying to blame guns on everything.

On tonight&#, 39;s segment of the news, (02-03-09) there was more complaining and more hardtimes about all the unemployed and the bad and just getting worse economy. IM SICK OF HEARING AND READING ABOUT IT! Everyone with just a little bit of common sense knows exactly what the problem is! UNTIL, we the people, of this ONCE powerful country, start demanding that OUR jobs stop being sent to other countries, it will only get worse! Pretty soon, THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT! We will all be out of work, the country and its backbone, hardworking, red-blooded, legal Americans will crumble! WE WILL BE A POOR AND STARVING NATION! In reference to oil prices in the las, t couple weeks dropping or remaining constant, could someone explain to the local public why gas prices just went up an additional $0.10 a gallon in Salem over night? Yesterday (02FEB09), the price went from $1.75 to $1.85 even thought there has been no indication of a local shortage, increase in the price of light crude oil, or natural disaster?

I just traveled to New Jersey last weekend and paid the same price ($1.75) at a gas station with Full Service off of I-295 that I paid in Salem for Self Service. Additionally, the gas stations near I-81 have their prices set maybe 10-20 cents more in this area.

I sent on note though the "email" icon before I saw the "feedback" li, nk, so, you may already have this.

I wanted to know how ofter your web cam cameras updated the photo? Is it 5, 10 etc minutes.

For 5 years I worked as farm manager and was a member of the staff that ran the "work/study program' of Boys' Home Inc. in Covington, VA. My family moved to FL in Nov but I still keep in touch...daily. I wanted to get some of the boys in the web cam photo but i did not know how long they would have to stay "in frame" to get photo'd. In their normal work routine they would not normally be in the photo's frame very long. They are a super group of young men. School is "out" today so they will be shoveling snow when it get there.

I visit your WDBJ web page daily. You do a great job for the area..especially the Alleghany Highlands. We always used WDBJ for our news of the area. We were NBC fans until we moved to VA (from SC) and you changed us quickly. We are now CBS watcher in FL.

Thanks for your coverage and have a great day.

I just finished watching the news segment 1/29/08 11:00pm news segment with the person from AEP blaming faulty electric heat pumps and HVAC systems for the big rise in our electric bills. It about made me sick when he mentioned comparing this latest bill with last year's bill. Oddly enough, I had already did just that when I paid last months electric bill. I used 3KW less electricity and my bill went from $175 last year to $230 this year. Sugar coat anyway you all desire, but the type of rate increase AEP was approved for is not right or justified. It is a good thing they only asked for a 30% raise and not a 80% raise. The SEC would have given them a mere 74% in lieu of 24%. Between cost increases like that and the raping we took from the oil companies, no wonder everybody is going broke.

We too were caught in the current parking scam.

On the 19th of December we were in Roanoke for another reason and decided to see what the Victorian Xmas was all about. Parking was difficult. We saw a parking lot across from Taubman Museum and pulled in. There was no sign on the outside of the lot stating that this was a private lot. On the far wall in front of us to the right next t, o a door was a sign "Private Parking." The spaces along the building and to the left were all numbered. There was at least one space in the very middle with no number. It was after 8 p.m., so we parked in the unmarked space.

We were gone just about 20 minutes as we had seen enough as the parade was already over. We came back to find the tow truck parked facing out with an SUV on the bed and our car and on a tow bar on the back. This is a front wheel drive car and the driver had pulled it up by the back. If he had pulled away with it in that position, he probably would have damaged the transmission.

As we were trying to figure out what to do, the driver came back and insisted the space was numbered and told us the fee was $150, but he would unhook it for $75. When we told him we didn't have that much money, he stated that he would take a credit card. As if we would give him our credit card number. He absolutely refused to release the c, ar, but did deign to call the owner.

The driver claimed that ordinances in Roanoke only require one sign and it was the one on the wall we had seen. He also said that the owner had a booth around the corner and walked over every ten minutes to check out the lot, ! To see how much money he could make per hour?

After a few minutes the driver came back and told us that if we paid him $50 he would release the car. What could we do? Between us we raised the $50 and he released the car.

He practically insisted I get in the car which I refused to do until my husband had moved the car. I pointed out to him that there was no number on that space and he said it must have worn off. However, all other numbers were bright and fairly newly painted. He still refused to refund our money.

If this isn't a scam what is it?

I still have visions of us being longer than 20 minutes and not having any way or enough money to get home. But worse yet is thinking about the lady in the wheel chair and what she would have done to find her SUV gone.

I was looking forward to the Job Quest segment. But I was disappointed with Head Hunters doing the Job Searches. Not Everyone at the age of 50 can afford to go back to college & learn a new trade !!! Should have been more regular Jobs offered !!! Can they survive Do they get their hands dirty .. Can they plant . can freeze , can their own food.. & Not Depend on New technology. We are killing our own selves.

If we can afford college.. Why is everyone losing there homes?

I HAVE WORKED FOR THE GOV & NOW HAVE NO INSURANCE & CANT FIND A JOB. Took time off to take care of family .. Don't regret a minute of it...

Market Square ... I think it is too much hipe about rodents !!! Glad they have cleaned up ... But where there is one. There is another... I live out in the country . Sometimes a rodent will find its way in.. But you keep a clean house.. But I think Roanoke should ck the other restaurants Surely ( Market building is not the only one ) Move them out of one they will move into another !!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother is soon to be 81 yrs old ... & tells me about the building---She an Dad used to go dancing upstairs... & was a meeting place for young people. Then walk up on Jefferson to watch a 25 cent movie .

The jefferson theater. I remember going there.. & parking in the Rialto parking lot.. Lucky if you could get a space.. I think Market Square should be a historical place.....What happened to the Pons De'Leon Hotel?

I can tell you stories about only elevator to basement water ( Older man I took his Job over retiring He tried to show me Important things ) WE Should keep & Respect !!!! An smoking if you dont like it don't go in..

I made a point of turning on all 5 of my TVs scattered over 3 floors of my house to see the switch over test this morning, but was very disappointed in the resulting switch over test. It appears the test didn't go as expected at WDBJ7 as they weren't expecting the screens to go black, so I am not sure this was a valid test. However since the only test times appeared to be two five second segmen, ts, I certainly did not get to check all my sets. Also the two sets I did see were my newer ones that I expected to see work and they just went black indicating failure. I would like to see another test segment that can be at least 5 minutes long to allow time to look at more than one TV. Further I am not confident this morning's test was done correctly so hopefully it will be more complete on the next effort. Would it be possible to do an early morning lengthy broadcast test to allow time for a full test as well as testing my satellite hookup for local stations as well?

I want to preface my comment below by saying that I really do love channel 7 news.

Listening to the brief segments on today's broadcast regarding the issue of proposed uranium mining in Pittsylvania County has been irksome. The newscaster announces that "s, ome say" the proposed mining project could bring hundreds of jobs to the area, while others say it could ruin the environment.

That kind of either/or, jobs vs. the environment framing does a terrible disservice to us all by suggesting that one can be positively supported over the other. More precisely, that kind of framing suggests that one path must be chosen to the exclusion of the other. Nonsense! Whoever said an entrepreneur doesn't care about the environment as much as the next person, or that the environmentalist can't also be a businessperson?

When we elected Tim Kane to be governor we did not do so for him to be taking on other responsibilities that takes his time from Virginia. Who is the watch dog who will see that no time, state tax money or state resources of the Virginia tax payer are used for any business of the Democratic National Party? I do not believe that even a phone call over a state phone line should be used for this purpose. I cannot see this position like a coach for a pee wee soccer team but that it will require much time taken away from impo, rtant business that needs to be conducted for the pressing needs of Virginia. A MESSAGE FROM A BARKING DOG:

I DON'T MEAN TO BE SO LOUD, CONSTANTLY BARKING DAY AND NIGHT.
BUT MY OWNERS HAVE STUCK ME OUT HERE ALONE, COLD, AND FULL OF FRIGHT.

ALL I WANT IS SOME ATTENTION LIKE IN MY PUPPY YEARS. A FEW KIND WORDS, THE THROW OF A BALL, A GOOD SCRATCHING BEHIND THE EARS.

I FEEL THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN ME, SO I HAVE BUT ONE VOICE. I CRY WITH ALL MY MIGHT TO REMIND THEM TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

PLEASE TEACH ME SOME MANNERS LIKE YOU WOULD A SMALL CHILD. I'M WILLING TO LEARN, JUST PLEASE, FOR MY LIFE, TEACH ME HOW.

I WROTE THAT POEM FOR ALL THE DOGS WHO WILL LOSE THEIR LIVES IF THIS THING ABOUT BARKING DOGS IS PASSED .CONSTANTLY BARKING DOGS ARE PRODUCTS OF LAZY OWNERS. CONSTANT BARKING IS A BAD HABIT THAT CAN BE, BROKEN IF THE TIME AND PATIENCE TO TEACH YOUR DOG SOME MANNERS IS TAKEN. I HAVE TWO DOGS AND HAVE TAUGHT THEM NOT TO BARK AT EVERY LITTLE THING. THEY ONLY BARK WHEN SOMEONE IS COMING IN THE YARD. AND TO THE PERSON WHO'S LIFE IS DISRUPTED FROM THE SOUND OF CONSTANT BARKING, OF WHICH I HAVE A LITTLE YAPPER THAT LIVES NEXT TO ME , JUST PLEASE REMEMBER IT'S NOT THE DOGS FAULT. THE DOG IS BARKING FOR A REASON, ONE IT'S OWNERS CHOOSE TO IGNORE. IF THIS THING IS PASSED TO PUT DOGS DOWN BECAUSE THEY CRY OUT THE ONLY WAY THEY KNOW HOW, THEN WHAT&, #39;S NEXT?......

I just finished watching the sad story of the Police dog that was shot. While as much as it grieves me at the loss of the good animal; I feel that the most important part of the story seems to have been missed.

What actions or further investigation is ongoing in reference to the Police Officer who negligently fired his weapon.

I have served in the US Army and Reserves for 20 years and have been involved in negligent discharge investigations with Soldiers who had negligently discharged their weapons. Most recently in Afghanistan, with an NCO who negligently fired his M16, and in all of these incidents legal action under UCMJ occurred.

I don't wish to pile on, and I fully support the Police in the tough work that they do. But, this officer in his own words said his adrenaline was pumping at the time that he shot the dog. So I would ask a couple of questions:

1) Do we have an Officer who needs: at the least much more remedial weapons training or at the most be barred from carrying a weapon?

2) But more importantly, what if it had been a child, or unarmed adult in the wrong place at that same time?

I only as, k because it appears he didn't clearly identify his target at the time and/or have a clear shot.

Watched the noon News today, 11/17/08 and just had to respond regarding the new energy saving lightbulbs that Kimberly so wholeheartedly supported. Are you people aware that they are only MADE in China? Are you aware they contain Mercury? That it is recommended that they be disposed of as one would dispose a battery? If one breaks in the home it is recommended that your central air/heat, , be turned off until you clean it up? And, that in the very near future, these will be the only bulbs on the market? Although they say the mercury content is "minimal", how about all that "no lead" thats been imported to our country? Do YOU trust China? I dont! The nation has now spoken and we can plan to see the light get darker. Many Americans failed to look on the true side of Obama which caused them to be deceived into putting their vote in for him. I do not hold his race against him because all men are created equal and deserve equal chances to serve. Obama is black and at times during his campaign he even said he was proud of it. This should not be held against him but the true inner self of Obama should. It is very clear that this man has "NO EXPERIENCE" and seeks to gain control not truly helping anyone along the way. He claims that he wants to but when you see how he has changed his word so many times since the election it only causes the question to be raised even higher. With a man like this as President, America will only get worse. A big majority only voted for this man because of his race and wanting the first black President of America. They didn't c, are what he really stood for or promised to do but just to have a black President. If he would be truthful and not so greedy then I would be willing to give him a chance but it is proven that he can't do it. When a man supports abortion (MURDER), turning his back on Israel all in order just to give himself more power then, in my book he is not qualified. America made their choice and for that will reap the consequence of it. I guarantee that in less than 2 ½ years many Americans will regret the choice made because the true, deceiving self of Obama will be seen. "Don't Blame Me, I Voted For McCain/Palin!!"

Yesterday America elected a new President. A new step in history, yes, but it would be great to have at least one news network to report the facts. President elect Obama is not African-American. His heritage is far different than those who's ancestors came to this country in chains. The facts are President elect Obama is just as much white as black. Hopefully he will be the one President who can unite all Americans regardless of race and raise us to the America that our forefathers dreamed of creating: "all men are created equal". As long as media are reporting "race" there will be prejudices. Let us look at and report President elect Obama as the man he is not by race.

when Obama came to Roanoke i had the opportunity to get a couple of supporters in my taxi. one of the statements that were made was about the rise in fuel prices under George bush's administration. i would like to clarify something for all of you that whine about gas prices. in the early 70's forecasters predicted that the world oil production would peak around 2010. since population and demand rose faster than predicted that peak happened sooner than predicted. this had nothing to do with who was president at the time. Oh, and by the way, gas was about a $1.25 a gallon for 35 years people. you show me anything else that is the same price today as it was in 1970 and i will let you whine all you want but until then get over it.

Nininger & Dupree made the choice to not get into the cab and get into their own vehicles instead. being a cabdriver myself i have no sympathy for either one of them. in retrospect i hope they realize that saving themselves 20 bucks may have cost them both 20 years, not to mention Richard Slone his life.

My email is concerning a report I watched on MSNBC tonight. MSNBC reported t, hat VA TECH students had been told that if they vote that they would loose their scholarships. They also reported that there was a fake flier put out telling Democrats to vote on the 5th of November instead of the the 4th. I tried to find any information concerning these stories on your website and was not able to find anything about it or any other stunts pulled by the RNC to block the vote. It appals me to think that the RNC would stoop to such childish behavior and it irritates me that more isn't being said on your website about it. I don't know if your broadcast said anything because I was not able to watch tonight however since I didn't see one story concerning Vote Blocking on your website I would presume you didn't air anything about it on the News either.

Students at Tech and UVA need to know that they can vote and all voters need to be made aware of tactics being used to keep them from casting their vote. I also read some of the feed back on your website and was amazed at how many people really believe that your station is biased toward Barack Obama, as far as I have been able to tell you have presented both sides of the race. It isn't your fault that McCain flip flops on his message from one hour to the next. With all due respect to the aging Senator he needs to get a grip. He is in no condition to lead our country and I certainly do not want 4 more years of Bush. Our Country needs Senator Obama, and I hope and pray that on November 4th every student every democrat votes for Obama and that Va finally votes Democrat instead of voting for a Republican who could care less about poor and middle class citizens of the United States. Senator Obama is a smart man and can at least knows that taxing poor and middle class isn't the way to go. No matter what get out there and VOTE VA even if you vote for the elderly McCain Vote our vote counts and we need to excercise our right to vote I hope you vote Obama, but just Vote. thank you for your time.

I am sick and tired of the liberal's thinking that Obama is the answer. Sometimes you need to look inside first.

If you are making over $250,000 forget it. How about everyone looking for a handout gets a second job or goes to college at night to better yourself like I did. Get a student loan instead of a handout. Instead of spreading the wealth which is pure socialism, how about a fair tax. The more you make the more you pay, but the same percentage. Why penalize people for being successful, it makes no sense.

After I served my country on active duty protecting your freedom (thank you very much) so you could sleep at night and be afforded the luxury of not having to be outside your comfort zone in your little world, I moved backed to Roanoke and I got a full-time job making $300 a week, I was in the National Guard two weekends a month 200 miles a way, had new baby to deal with and went to college full-time at night. All with student loans and driving $900 cars and saving money. I did not complain to the government so they could give me a handout. I did not ask , the government for jack squat. Everyday that you wake up you have a choice. This choice is whether to continue on your current path or do something to change it. Stop looking for someone else to change your current situation and take charge yourself!!!!

P.S. This e-mail is not directed to anyone in particular, just those liberal people in general who think Obama is there answer to all our problems!!! Pass it on!!

Get out and vote, it is your right to vote... blah blah blah... can someone please tell me why we should bother to vote? Our votes DO NOT matter! For example if John McCain were to get 3 million votes and Barack Obama were to get 300 but Barack got 250 ELECTORAL votes while McCain got 24... Obama would be declared the winner. So, therefore.. the 3 million people who voted for McCain really had no say so in the matter! I keep asking the question and the response I get is.. well, your right. Once again, it really doesn't matter what we want!

Your station "prides" itself on presenting the best news to the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. That unfortunately is FALSE!!!! Tonights broadcast (Oct. 12) covering President Clinton's downtown apperance followed by an interview with Sen. McCain was pathetic. Jennifer Rashad (sp) needs to be aware that her non-verbal facial expressions were completely out of line. Your job is to report the news as matt, er of fact as possible tonight WDBJ7 FAILED! It almost felt like democratic propaganda as another viewer put it. The upcoming election is important to us all and you owe your viewers all the news not just the opinions of your liberal station. This is my hometown but WDBJ7 is no longer my hometown station. Wake up this is 2008 keep your opinions to yourself and report all the news! That is your job! If you did your job correctly there would be no need for a feedback section!

This was one of the most exciting nights of my life! Bill Clinton was so awsome and carazmatic in his speech today here in Roanoke! I was lucky enough to see him upclose and listening to him speak was the treat of a lifetime! What a gracious, intelligent and sensible and down to earth man he is! Obama is going to make a great president. I am so , excited about this upcomming election. The crowd tonight was stoked and the atmosphere was totally electrifying. Excitement beyond compare! All there is left to say is WOW!!!!

We elect officials to represent us, US citizens, in Washington. Unfortunately, it seems as if they have dropped the ball along the way. As far as I can tell, their concerns are more important than the concerns of those who gave them the positions they have. This is just a reminder to all of our representatives: We have , given you our votes to put you in office. It would be greatly appreciated if you could please think about that while you are voting on the important issues that affect us, not only yourself.

I was very disappointed with your story on the Wachovia - Wells Fargo buyout. No one mentioned anything about Citibank except that they object to this deal. What about the fact that Wachovia had an exclusivity clause in their deal with Wachovia that stated Wachovia could not negotitae further with anyone other than Citibank? What about the fact that Wachovia was using Citibank's money since 9/29/08 to help run it's business? What about the fact that since Wachovia illegally made the deal with Wells Fargo the stock for Citibank dropped significantly and families have now lost their 401K plans? How about the fact that Citibank does not have any branches in Virginia either so Wachovia wouldn't lose them in the Citi - Wachovia deal?

I understand that Wells is offering more money per Wachovia stock but everyone (especially the media) is missing the point here. Wachovia already sold itself to Citibank and they had a contract. It was illegal to sell itself again to Wells Fargo. If Wachovia didn't like the Citi deal they could have said NO and continued to negotiate with anyone they wanted. Wachovia wanted a quick infusion of money so they said yes to Citi and then turned around and caused Citi employees to lose their shirts while Wachovia stockholders will get a fat payout!!

Report all the facts not just the ones you like.

Enough already about the down town Roanoke rodent problem! Hello! This is the time of year all disgusting little pests are on the move. No matter how clean a place can be, the little varmints invade, especially when there is food. We need to address far advanced problem, s than rodents so stop beating a dead horse to death!

For instance, all I hear anymore is drunk drivers and how to catch them! What about all these dim wits driving down the road, and all over the road I might add, especially on I-81 who are either text messaging or on their cell phones! Give me a break! These crazies are as guilty of causing accidents and deaths as a drunk driver. I am not condoning drunk driving by any means BUT if one has 1 or 2 beers, they can be hauled into, jail and fined to enormous proportions along with jail time and big bucks. Now, the cell, texters, etc. may get a slap on the wrist and sent on their merry way. All one has to do is observe while driving on any road and count the number of people who are driving and on their hones. How about a major crack down on them? These users also cause accidents and deaths and that's a fact.

Then take a look at the mess this country is in because of greed perhaps, greed controllers from Repubs, Demo's and Independies. What a mess they have made! I think a fifth grader could exude more intelligence than I see in the political arena!

Quite frankly I am sick of walking into these stores, or purchasing merchandise, etc. and its in umpteen different languages (a bit of an exaggeration mind you). Then we stand in lines listening to gobble-de-gook yap yaps! Do other countries extend US citizens the same courtesy? Then speaking of US citizens? Where are we? I see flags flying that is not the American flag, People marching for their rights in this country? Let US citizens try that trick in other countries. Bet we would never come out alive!

There are soldiers drying daily in this idiotic war that never should have taken place and if it was necessary the White House went after the wrong culprit! Weapons of mass destruction! Allowing illegals to invade this country and make it their own! Oh please!!

All I can say is Wake Up Americans! We need to stand together and say enough is enough!

Thank you for your time and I apologize if I have stepped on anybody's toes. I do not mean to offend but I sure can get aggravated with blatant stupidity!

I know it is "VT Football" season....but it is also hockey season for VT. This past Saturday 9-20-2008, VT opened its season for Pink in the Rink for breast cancer against Liberty University. Nothing was mentioned in the news. I don't feel that we should only talk about VT, but other local school in the region. VT plays Liberty, UVA, and other schools this year. I love college football, but I do think it is UNFAIR that it is the only thing that is going on in the fall to everyone. I would like to hear your reasoning for not releasing the name of the teacher involved in the pornography incident at Floyd Co. High School on today's Noon broadcast. Could it be because the pornography was heterosexual?

It can't be responsible journalism, since that would have prevented you from releasing the name of a Gay teacher in Roanoke several years ago who was arrested in Roanoke Police Department's game of "Capture the Fag" in Wasena Park. In fact, you couldn't release his name fast enough, "to protect the children", even though he had not even been to trial. Could it be your Homophobic Bigotry shining brightly in both instances? I have little doubt that if the pornography in question had been homo-erotic in nature, you would have already convicted the teacher of wrong doing.

Of course the question remains: Will you even post this question to your web site, let alone answer it?

My husband and I took my van to get gas - went over to the 7-11 on 9th street - they would not sell any regular gas, only the highest premium at $3.85 a gallon. Everywhere else we went there were long lines. I saw it as high as $3.99. I would say that 20 cents more a gallon is price-gouging. I think it is utterly appalling that just on the "likelihood" of Ike doing damage, oil companies are ripping the American public off. To my knowledge no damage has been incurred yet local service stations that were $3.59 yesterday are now $4.19. Come on, a sixty cent hike overnight! Why is it that Natasha Ryan, when reporting on the candidates, seemed to report what the Republicans say as fact. They are lying about the earmark issue (as well as about others). It seems that no news media cares to report the facts. The fact is that Sarah Palin supported the $223 million earmark for that "Bridge to Nowhere" and only opposed the idea after much ridicule (however, she kept the federal money). Sarah Palin is for earmarks when it benefits Sarah Palin. Americans need to be made aware of the facts, and since very few of us take the time to read about and research something, it is up to you to accurately and fairly report them. I usually don't do this, I mean complain about what you decide to air on your newscasts. But I feel I have to complain and admit that I probably won't be watching anymore, but tune in your competitors station. The reason being that at a time when all the news stories, should not be biased, should show all sides of the news story, and be very detached from their personal opinions. You have not followed any of these standards for objective journalism. All I ever hear about is Senator Obama on your show. we hardly ever hear a thing about Senator McCain. I think you have run 1 campaign ad for McCain and everyday you lead off with some story about Obama, usually about him talking somewhere in our state or any other state really. You report on the democrat and republican parties and nominations, but you don't report anything about the independent party or if anyone else is running for president. If you are indeed unbiased in reporting the news, why don't you report on ALL the news. Is there anyone else running for president on any other ticket? You should be giving equal exposure and reporting to ALL the candidates. I know you have the time to report it, because you often repeat the same news for days and several times throughout the day. Re your news alert issued August 19, 2008, entitled "Norfolk Southern will construct at Elliston site," I quote:

"The facility will provide significant economic benefits for the region, with up to 2,900 jobs and $71 million in tax revenue annually."

You have not made it clear that those undefined, hypothetical 2,900 jobs will NOT be in this area. They "may" come into existence between here and Chicago. Norfolk Southern is providing only 11 jobs from this facility. Any additional jobs in this area will not be at the N/S facility, but must come from additional building around the facility.

You have not made it clear that Montgomery County's economic development plan for the Elliston area is to keep it small and village-like, not turn it into an industrial area with warehouses and local traffic congestion.

It has not been made clear exactly where that $71 million in tax revenue will come from. Could you clarify that?

I quote:
"The project will ... remove 1.9 million trucks from Virginia's highways... in the first 15 years of operation."

You have not made it clear that 130,000 of those trucks per year are proposed to be removed from the highways around Hampton Roads, but they will be added to Interstate 81 around Roanoke. It has been demonstrated that truck traffic will increase in a hundred-mile radius around this site. You have not made it clear that the Interstate - already congested in this area - will become MORE congested, not less, as will Route 460, including Christiansburg Mountain.

If you live in this area, you already know that the hills around here are very difficult for trailer trucks, especially in winter if there is any ice or snow on the roads at all. You can expect more accidents on Interstate 81 and 460. This is our Governor's gift to this area, along with additional air pollution.

I quote:
"The project will ... reduce carbon emissions by 700,000 tons in the first 15 years of operation."

You have not made it clear that THIS area will receive INCREASED carbon emissions because of the additional trucks that will be brought in here to pick up cargo containers dumped at Elliston. The relatively clean air at this Elliston site will become polluted with diesel exhaust, and that pollution will, because of prevailing winds, blow toward the already-polluted Roanoke Valley. There will also be additional particulate pollution of the air from rusting cargo containers. Therefore, some places along this "Corridor" will have cleaner air because of this project, but not here. Our air quality will get worse.

You have not made it clear that the Governor has over-ridden the right of the local community to "secure and promote the health, safety and general welfare of its inhabitants," a right that is granted to local communities in the Virginia Code and the state Constitution.

Many people in Montgomery County are opposed to the building of this facility at Elliston, for the reasons given and many more. If you are providing information to the public, please make sure that you make it clear exactly what will be accomplished by this project. There are some serious downsides -- local impact -- which you failed to mention, and the mention of 2,900 jobs is very misleading, because they wi, ll not be in this area.

I have been very fortunate to travel through many towns in our great Commonwealth. From Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Colonial Beach, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Harrisonburg and Abingdon to Floyd, Grundy, Cumberland Gap, Meadows of Dan, Stuarts Draft and many more in between, I believe we live in one of the most beautiful states in America. People are generally friendly in each place I have been, and I always look forward to revisiting each area.

In my travels, I have observed one thing that these areas have in common; they all have some sort of growth and progress. What I mean is that, in every region of Virginia in which my wife and I have traveled, there have been improvements to the areas and people are building enormous homes, not just in Richmond, Tidewater and Northern Virginia but also in Southern and Western Virginia. I don't mean the sudden influx of manufactured homes, but homes that would range from $200K to $4 million dollars or more.

Despite my positive comments above, I am greatly concerned as to why there is no money in Virginia. Virginia is growing and prospering. There are new communities building up in almost every region of this Commonwealth. I think that it is time for internal cuts in Richmond and not time for cuts to every extending branch of our government. Our leaders need to find better ways to make things 'greener' and more economical for Virginians. There are thousands of people on staff. Prisons are full and overcrowded. We have people on unemployment. Utilize these resources and all other assets that we are so blessed to have and stop wasting our money. There is enough tax money going in to Richmond, but what is coming out is not satisfactory anymore. Legislators, you are all elected to do a better job in spending and managing our hard-earned money, so please do so.

"The proof is in the pudding" as my Grandmother would always say. There are more and more sizeable homes being built in VA, towns are improving, and we are prospering as a Commonwealth. The money is 'flowing in' to Richmond, it just doesn't seem to 'flow out' quite as well.

I am very upset with the report you have done on the Galax Fiddlers Convention. The first night of the convention is barely over and you are writing it off as a total failure. I am quite sure the crowd for Monday night was probably a record for an opening night. The number of registered performers for the convention is up this year after seeing a decline for the past 4 years. If anything I would think the attendance will be up for the entire week due to the fact that many people have not gone on long distance vacations and will instead visit the Fiddlers as a vacation. Thousands of people do in fact use their vacation to attend the Galax Fiddlers every year.
You do not have a story here and are just instilling doubt in the minds of the public. Your story will only serve to harm the attendance at the Fiddlers by suggesting the show might be less than normal, when in fact it will actually be larger than the previous 4 years.
This type of reporting is why some areas of the country have a real estate slump and an economic downturn in general. Please stop with the fear mongering. Why can't you be more positive in your reporting. Every face at Galax had , a smile on it; life is good ! Let us enjoy it.

It looks like WDBJ7 News reporting is continuing its massive slide downhill since their change in management. The station we formerly could count on for the best and most objective local reporting is now more focused on national politics, celebrity rumors, scandals, and anything else that can be obtained easily from the network and other outside sources. A good example is the tragic truck crash on 581 last night. As of this morning's 8:00 AM newscast the fact that a body was removed from the crash reported by other agencies just after 3:00AM was not even known or reported by WDBJ five hours later. First, I cannot fully understand the grief that the Ramsey family is feeling because I have never "worn those shoes". But I may be able to understand the position of Mr. Kennedy when it comes to protecting his property and business and maybe his own life.

Mr. Ramsey was wrong to attempt to rob the business. Mr. Kennedy was, in my opinion, right to protect his business. As to what extreme can be questioned, but I do not believe Mr. Kennedy should be charged with murder.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Thomas Jefferson's home in Charlottesville is pronounced "Mon-tee-chello," not "Mon-tee-cello," as it was pronounced recently by at least two of your news anchors. I learned I was pronouncing it incorrectly when I moved to Virginia from another state 37 years ago, and, because I assumed that Virginians would certainly know which pronunciation was correct, I now refer to it as "Mont-tee-chello."

No big deal, of course, because anyone who heard the newscast certainly would know what the anchors were referring to, and perhaps either pronunciation is acceptable. However, I thought you might want to verify which is "correct" before the name is mentioned again on your newscast.

I was appalled by the entirely one-sided account presented , by Hollins professor Ed Lynch regarding the current Israeli-Palestinian situation. Although I agree that the violence in that area is unnecessary, his portrayal that the Palestinian "terrorists" are solely responsible for the violence is, strictly, false. His list of places that he visited betrays his bias at the root: by visiting a jail where Palestinians are incarcerated instead of the slums in which Palestinian citizens are forced to live, his perception and therefore his interpretation of the situation are obviously skewed. For a more accurate depiction of the situation, it would have been interesting for him to ask the Israeli soldiers who guard the wall whether or not they hate the Palestinians. If they answered that they do not, as the Palestinians claimed that they do not hate Israelis, I would, like Lynch, find that "hard to believe," considering the numerous acts of violence committed against Palestinians.

As a long-time viewer of WDBJ7 news, I was disappointed to see biased information presented as indisputable fact. At the very least, simultaneously interviewing someone of the opposing perspective would allow your viewers to determine what they do and do not believe instead of having opinions dictated to them by one individual's account. If you are interested in presenting an opposing viewpoint but have difficulty finding qualified , individuals, a college classmate of mine who is currently volunteering in Jerusalem, where she has lived for the past three years, would gladly travel here in the fall to give you her perspective.

Obviously, I realize that it is extremely unlikely that you are either interested or willing in conducting such a controversial interview. Nonetheless, I am advocating this option in sincere hopes that as a broadcasting system that seeks to present the unbiased truth, you consider it.

Thank you,

GAS TAX PROPOSAL:

As to our elite legislators, representative, senators, state employees & Governor - the gas tax won't hurt their pocketbooks, because we, the taxpayers furnish their vehicles, insurance, maintenance, gas, etc. If our state/government REAL, LY wants to save some money for road maintenance, why don't all these higher-ups, turn in their state cars and try driving their own and paying their way like the rest of us. Could save a lot of money!!!!! It's so unfair that they drive around, free, day and night, making a luxury salary and all the while those of us trying to live/survive on $20,000 or less, have to pay the high gas prices/taxes. I would like for just one of them to walk in my shoes for 1 month; trying to choose between gas and food!, When is everyone going to wake up? If they really cared about the citizens, they would do everything possible to help us, but NO, they have to keep their outrageous salaries and drive their state vehicles, with out tax money.

My wife and I enjoy watching WDBJ for news and weather but we find it mystifying that you talk out of both sides of your mouth when it comes to weather, and this involves your news announcers and the weather announcers. Tonight, the first thing Bren, t said was that rain was going to bother us over the weekend. Then the news anchor, Natasha, reported the forest fire in Bedford. She then mentioned that we could use some of the water that is flooding the midlands. Then when Brent came on again to give the long version of the weather, he again mentioned that the weekend would be spoiled by the possibility of rain. You all seem to forget that without rain we have all kinds of problems, from crops to water supply for homes. I wish you would get your act together and set your priorities for what is good for our green earth and not just what is convenient for everyone's leisure and entertainment. It is very disturbing to think that you are educated about the weather and can't get it straight about what is good for this planet we live on. Please take time to think about what you are saying, and listen to what you are saying.

I believe th, at you need to give us up to the minute weather but, last night and a couple of times in the past you guys really did up to the minute. In fact it was minute to minute to minute. Your weather update was constantly repeating yourself from 7:35 until after 9:15 when I gave up and went to bed. Almost 2 hours is a lot of excess. You could of just as well popped in for update and then posted across the top of the screen instead of dominating the entire programming. Too much over kill.

Your recent report on the Howard family that supports the Intermodal Facility being bulit on their property left out one of the biggest reasons they support the State's decision. Besides not wanting to stand in th, e "way of pro, gress" or "jeopardizing jobs for the New River Valley", the Howards failed to mention that they would be paid quite handsomely for their farmland and that selling their neighbors and county down the road is no consequence. It is insulting that the Howards and your news program think that your viewers would not be able to see through this ruse.

Unfortunately the big picture here isn't just closing Forest Park, but the fact that Roanoke City Schools graduation rate is ONLY 57%. Moving students into area schools that aren't accredited is doing a major injustice to our youth. The school board needs to analyze why the graduation perc, entage is barely over half ... i.e. curriculum (especially Special Education students that are being overlooked because they do not fit the bill as the "perfect" student), teachers that do not teach or feel that it is not their responsibility when they see a student lagging behind to call parents and discuss ways to resolve the issues and Central Administration staff that do not return phone calls or emails from concerned parents. Obviously they aren't doing their jobs and giving the students what they need to be successful. If they would delve deeper and look at the problems, they would see that closing Forest Park in favor of an over age academy is certainly NOT the answer. Overhauling our entire educational system for the Roanoke Valley, starting from the School Board to Central Administration on down to the Prinicples and the faculty is needed. I think its high time that administration and the school board actually listens to parents and take some of recommendations to heart instead of looking for ways excuse their educational failure!

I've noticed that the comments about rain interfering with the weekends and outdoor plans are becoming more frequent again. It is my understanding that our area is still in the middle of a drought, and I can't understand why educated, competent people continue to make this dialog a part of most every newscast.

I am a loyal viewer and have been for a, long time, but this is one of my pet peeves. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest.

This is in reference to the segment that Jennifer Wishon did on the 6 o'clock news concerning OUR tax dollars and where t, hey go. The segment was going well until she got to the part referring to Medicaid. This program IS NOT only for the "poor" citizens of our state. Ms. Wishon should put forth a little more effort into the research she does before she presents her report. I have a disability as do MANY citizens in Virginia and I AM enlisted in the Medicaid program. If you have a fixed income and are on this program it DOES NOT mean that you are poor. It means that you have something preventing you from working a job that w, ill enable you to AFFORD insurance. NOT all "poor" people are on Medicaid and not all people on Medicaid are "poor". (Close but not destitute). I have first hand knowledge of people who desperately need to be considered for the program BUT do not qualify.

The way she presented that statement really more than likely made the people (like myself) feel that it was shameful to get assistance if they need it. May I say for all recipents of this program that there is nothing to be ashamed of if you are truly trying to do everything you are able to do. Maybe Ms. Wishon should walk a mile in our shoes BEFORE she decides she is above being "POOR". Believe me it can happen in the blink of an eye.

I have watched WDBJ forever. At 6 and 11 the TV in my parent's house could only be on Ch. 7. I keep that tradition today and really enjoy your reporters, anchors and your community involvement. I will always watch WDBJ and I have never sent you a comment before, but last night , I was appalled at what I saw.

I saw the segment last night at 11 on the guy who sold the VT shooter his gun and is conducting concealed weapons permit classes.

What were you thinking to allow him to say "We know the democrats are anti-gun" and not offer the counter view. You let a big misconception and lie be repeated on your broadcast. I am a democrat and a member of the NRA. I am living proof that you can be a democrat and still support the 2nd amendment.

I have always thought and still do think that WDBJ is unbiased and simply reports the facts. Last night was an exception that I hope I do no see repeated, I do not expect it to happen again from you guys, you are the best in VA in my view. Don't let politics mess up your sterling image.

Equal time is all I am asking for here. Everyone is entitled , to their opinion but when a news station airs comments like those without any counterbalance, the average viewer is left to assume that such comments are "news" and the opinion of WDBJ.

Thank you for allowing me to air my concerns.

I am a regular viewer of channel 7 news and appreciate the fine reporting from Natasha Ryan and the rest of your group. However, I think you were not quite correct in the story I just saw (11pm news, Tuesday, April 15, 2008) regarding the organic egg farm with chickens that can range and roost freel, y. Your story stated that, although this has been done in Europe for some period of time, this was the first of its kind in the nation. While the modern facilities and equipment in this new Virginia farm may be new developments, this concept has been around (in the US) for well more than half a century. It was pioneered by Henry Wallace, secretary of agriculture and vice-president under FDR, as far back as the 1940's on his free-range chicken operation (Farview Farm) in South Salem, NY. I know without a doubt. My father built most of the buildings on the farm and, as my family was close friends with the family of the farm supervisor, we grew up playing on that farm. I am attaching a photo, taken around 1955, of myself and three of my brothers standing amid acre-upon-acre of free-range chickens. (I'm the little squinty kid in the red shorts)

I have to say that I thought seriously about contacting WDBJ 7 last night in the middle of the "LIVE FEED". I was very upset about seeing the interruption last night to show some of the Virginia Tech candlelight vigil. Keith Humphry and Jean Jadhon were useless. The few words that they spoke during the interruption were completely off the wall. I don't understand why it was put on the air like this. If you felt as if you needed to show the support, it should have been just showing the candlelight vigil. We certainly did not need their comments. Keith brought up information right in the middle of a name being called and was in poor taste. What the heck was the deal with the phone th, at was ringing in the background the entire live feed.? Could you not be a bit more organized? I agree completely with the other comments that I have seen on feedbacks and yes I was also a little upset with the interruption of Big Brother smack dab in the middle of the show. I agree with Kevin Mullins, "It was more like you figured you better show something instead of nothing about it. It would have been better planning to have taped the whole ceremony and replayed later so that if anyone wanted to watch it, they could have watched it in its entirety instead just a short piece on a few of the names being read." NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU COULD HAVE REMOVED THE PHONE RINGING OUT OF THE TAPE. If I could have picked up my TV, I would have thrown it out my window.

I have to say that the interruption last night to show some of the Virginia Tech candlelight vigil was in poor taste. I was a little upset with the interruption of Big Brother smack dab in the middle of the show, but more with the fact that it seemed like an afterthought. It was more like you figured you better show something instead of nothing about it. It would have been better planning to have taped the whole ceremony and replayed later so that if anyone wanted to watch it, they could have watched it in its entirety instead just a short piece on a few of the names being read.

Thanks as usual for the over coverage of Virginia Tech I wouldn't expect anything less from WDBJ. But why interrupt Big Brother for over twenty minutes to show the candle light vigil at tech. I'm a fan of , the Hokies but also a fan of BB9 and as a person that had this show on DVR I missed a big portion of the show. I would like to share my feelings about your coverage of Virginia Tech's anniversary of the shootings that happened there last year. I am very upset that you decided to interrupt one of my favorite programs to show coverage of the candlelight vigil there tonight. This is something you could have taped and replayed on your news broadcasts at 10 and 11. If it was something serious like a tornado coming through Roanoke, I could understand, but this is certainly not as serious as something of that nature. This happened a year ago, and while it may be sad, it's time to get over it. If you want to broadcast it live, then do it over the internet where anyone who wants to watch may, but I do not w, ant to see it, and I'm sure there are more who would agree with me.

As the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings approach I am hearing more and more about it and noticing more media on campus. I heard this morning that you all would be broadcasting the Memorial Service as well as the Candle Light Vigil live on WDBJ7 as well as WDBJ7.com. As an employee of Virginia Tech that was here on April 16 I have seen and felt the morning that has gone on here on campus. The anniversary is going to be a day of mourning as well and you all invading the privacy of this University by broadcasting a private ceremony for this campus for the world to see is wrong. I have lived through this and it hasn't been easy. Media hasn't made it any better. Why would you want to broadcast the mourning of this campus for all the world to see. Would you broadcast a priv, ate funeral? This is, in a way, the same thing. Please reconsider your decision.

My feedback is regarding Obamas most recent statement. What he said was just wrong. To some americans, the statement did not offend them. But, the people he talked about are highly offended. He makes lower and middle class americans look as though we are Redneck Hillbillys. That is not the case. We to not turn to things as he said. We are adverage people that are not as well off as others. I belive he want, ed to say that we feel left out of society. But said things, in a way, without thinking. He keeps saying things he has no right to say. He needs to learn to think before he speaks.

Well, as I have read through most of the other feedback notes before coming to this sight to place my own, I see that approximately EVERY OTHER feedback is in regards to Va Tech. Be it about the Shooting or the Sports...but the thoughts pretty much are all the same. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Yes, it was a tragedy that so many young people died a Year ago. But my though is this...maybe there wouldn't be a need for all the counseling of these students & families IF you quit talking about it. I believe I have even heard some of the students say this same thing.

I am in No Way try, ing to be disrespectful to the families that lost someone or had a child hurt...but I believe that if Va Tech wants to do something to remember this day in a PRIVATE ceremony or service & include the student body at T, ech if they choose to attend, that's fine. BUT for everyone else, let these people alone & let them live in peace. If you want to have a "sidebar" on the news about this event taking place, fine but leave it at 1 story. NOT 7 days a week - 24 hours a day. How is anyone expected to heal and get on with their lives if they have a daily reminder via the news. They don't need that from you... I'm sure they remember enough without the constant media reminders!

Plus, all the GUN laws in the world aren't going to stop the ki, l, ling! Do people ACTUALLY think that a criminal or another person wanting to do harm to someone with a gun are going..."oh, they passed this law ...so now I can't get a gun."???? Criminals or anyone intent on doing harm to another person doesn't give a hoot about any gun laws...thus the reason they are called CRIMINALS...they will get a gun if they want it .. LAWS OR NO LAWS!!!!!!

As for Va Tech & their sports...I thought that students went to college for an education thus if they play sports being called a STUDENT Athlete. When you put so much emphasis on Sports & not the education then you get the caliber of Athletes that turn out like the Vick br, others...Now, that is a SHINING example of proud Va Tech Sports. YEAH..Right! If I were Mr. Beamer or any other sporting coach at Tech I would INSIST on education first...sports 2nd. IF you don't attend class & actually EARN a passing grade then your rear end will be on the bench until grades improve or if you get in trouble you don't play for several games & if the behavior continues then they don't play at all & are kiced off the team...if they are there on a scholarship they loose it! Then MAYBE you will have Student Athletes to be proud of!

I will end my little tirade with this...I would think that "Our Hometown Station" would be ASHAMED to even be associated with an institution that encourages or seems to condone misconduct from its athletes...Plus it does SO MUCH for the college's reputation!

Give everyone the RESPECT they deserve & quit condoning & feeding the frenzy...Enough is Enough!

I am curious about a story I saw on the news tonight. Shock and Awe....it was about Virginia Tech...AGAIN! But this time it was about some students who had 'invented' a lighting system to 'help' people know when vehicles are slamming on their brakes or just slowing down. Ok, correct, me if I am wrong, but wouldn't it be just as easier, less expensive, and immediate if people just stopped ridding so close to the vehicle in front of them? Maybe the drivers should just remember that it is illegal to 'tailgate' and maybe policy should start pulling over more peopl, e for 'tailgating' the vehicles in front of them instead of just for speeding or littering, etc. And if I remember correctly, you do learn this in Driver Training class and in your Behind the wheel training...I think this is even a question on you driver's test at the DMV. The rule of thumb that I was taught to use was you pick a stationary object, like a sign on the side of the road. When the vehicle in front of you passes that object, you start counting; if you don't make it to at least 3...YOU'RE TOO CLOSE AND NEED TO BACK OFF! And I am sure there are several people out there who will be willing to let you learn the hard way by doing a good ole fashioned 'brake check.' thanks.

With regard to Amondre Johnson signing to play football with UVA Wise - good for him. Wise is an excellent school and they have a great foot ball team. You noted that Amondre "found the school to be just the right fit, just as it has been for many kids in the area". Exactly -- there are a lot of Southside / Central Virginia kids playing football at Wise, but who would know? They certainly get no coverage from you or any other sports news channels in the area. Their Spring Game is April 19th. These guys have been working really hard in preparation. How about a little coverage? Of course it might mean taking away a little time from Va Tech, but we'll survive... really - we will.

Wi, th regard to Tech - dare we hope that following the 1st Anniversary of the ‘Tech Tragedy' you all will ‘let it go'? I've often wondered what you would have talked about had the shootings not taken place.

Why doesn't the consumer wake up. Hit the oil companies' pockets before they hit ours.

Why don't more people car pool like we did in the '70s oil embargo? Or why not stop all these high school students who aren't on work release, ride the school buses like all of my kids did. Have you ever noticed how empty the school buses are today? It's because the kids today all have cars and could care less about the cost of fuel. Don't gripe parents if you have a kid driving to school.

This was a very tragic thing that happened at Va.Tech, it is a terrible and awful shame that so many young lives were lost. And yes so many was affected by this. But in my opinion why should the state or Va.Tech pay for this? We need to put the blame on who pulled the trigger. He and only he is to blame, not the state and not Va.Tech. You may also be able to place some blame on HIPPA Laws, that does not allow disclosure of information.

I am writing in regards to the interviews that you rece, ntly aired with the non union employees. I was very disappointed; as I am sure many of the members in the local union were, in these interviews due to the fact that these folks will reap the benefits that we will have won for them. We have been out on strike now for 42 days, these non union members have not missed a beat and it's just like I said they will reap the benefits and give nothing in return. In my opinion, they are just cowards and don't want to fight for the benefits they will get, from us fighting for what they are going to get. I wished you would have aired some of the union members that you spoke with as to why we call them scabs; in my opinion this was not fair to Local 2069.

Just a bit of information, the membership donated over $50,000 in the New River Valley last year alone and we do this every year. So, don't try to make us look like the bad guys when we give back so much to the New River Valley and I would appreciate equal coverage. We are one of the top contributors to United Way and this is not included in the over $50,000. How easy it is for folks to forget how much of our income is spent in our communities supporting local businesses and in order for us to be able to spend these hard earned dollars we have to fight for them.

In closing, I am ashamed to know how quickly that you all report any little negative item you can find on this membership and how quickly you all over look the good that this membership does throughout the year, every year.

In Solidarity,

As I read some of the feedback comments, I see a lot of what I am writing about. Mike Stevens and Va Tech. This really does make me angry. Va Tech is not the only place to find sports. If there is no Tech football or basketball to speak of then he moves on to soccer, lacrosse, etc. It always has to be about Tech. How about expanding your coverage a little more down the line. For instance, how about some middle school sports. Football, basketball, wrestling, and track are middle school sports that athletes participate in also. From experience, there is just as much competitiveness on this level as there is at the high school and college level. It would be nice to hear about some of these sporting events as well.

Just remember Mike, not everyone is a Tech fan. There are other arenas that have sports other than the ones in Blacksburg.

I believe that your sports coverage is the best in Southwest Virginia. I am, however, perplexed that you mentioned Brittany Cook's (Virginia Tech) second team All-ACC selection on your newscast, and you failed to mention that Roanoke's native daughter, Khadijah Whittington (North Carolina State), was a first team pick. As a matter of fact, she was two points shy of being the leading vote-getter. Khadijah is the hardest working women in college basketball, averaged a triple-double, and was the only senior on a very young Wolfpack squad. She deserved to be honored by her "Hometown Station". This is no disrespec, t to Cook. She deserves kudos for her accomplishment. But I must stand up for what Whittington has accomplishedin her brilliant career that began at William Fleming High School. It makes angry that individuals like Dupree and Nininger feel they have a right to go to a bar and get drunk, then get behind the wheel of a vehicle and put innocent people at risk. They crossed the line in their freedom and that of the construction worker. I would like to see both of them charged with second degree murder. They need to sit in jail for a long time to contemplate the gravity of their actions. Saying they are sorry will not bring back the worker. Their family will suffer the rest of their lives.

I understand the bar had refused to serve Nininger because she was drunk. I feel that if a bar realizes this, they should be responsible enough to call a cab for the patron. Further, if they don't take that step, they should be held responsible for not calling the cab or notifying the police of the situation.

Having just read your February 8, 2008 article "House backs block on public records of Virginia gun permits," it appears that only the ones who have conceal carry permits are against having the conceal carry lists made public. The "anti-gun" people seem to be the ones that want this list made public. But, if they would just think a moment, if the "bad" guys were to have access to this list, they would learn who does NOT have a conceal carry permit, th, ereby leaving the unarmed, anti-gun individual at a very great disadvantage. But, asking these particular people to "think" is probably reaching a bit too far. I have a conceal carry permit and I don't care if you know about it. But, if it were publicly known that I never carried or did not own a gun at all, now that would not make me very unhappy.

Thank you very much for the detailed coverage you have given to this horrendous, tragic story about the hit and run of my brother, Tom Farrell.

Your reporting has given us such well needed updated information on a daily basis. I truly hope that you will publish or present this on your news cast or internet.

My greatest concerns are listed below that I feel should be heard by anyone concerned.

1. The Roanoke police had contact with Jeffrey Martin Young 11 times before the fatal accident on January 28, including contact with him at 3 a.m. on January 28. Concerned citizens had also called in to express that something was not right with an individual lurking in the area and displaying unusual, suspicious behavior. I would like to know exactly what happene, d each time the police had contact with Young, what days, what times, what was discussed. I would also like to know how many citizens called in and what their concerns were and exactly what days/times they called? Since the Roanoke police had ample opportunities to keep better tabs on this menace to society and chose not to, I sincerely hope their consciences are bothering them every waking moment.

Think about it! The police had contact with Young based on their obs, ervations of peculiar, suspicious behavior and so did fellow citizens who notified the police of this peculiar, suspicious person, and the police COULD have monitored this whacko after at least the 10th contact. Why must we wait for a tragedy to occur?

2. An employee from the country store had called 911

on 1/28 to report the jeep WITH DAMAGE and the driver acting suspicious. The 911 dispatcher chose not to pass this call on to the police. How can this happen?

Is a dispatcher allowed to make this type of judgment call? By this tremendous error, Young was able to hang around the Country Store until after 5 p.m. on

1/28 and then , leave without ever being questioned, even though the 911 call described the jeep damage and his suspicious behavior. This also led to him being able to get behind the wheel of another car on 1/30 and hit a woman in a supermarket parking lot and beat her with a stick. The Floyd County police called the Roanoke police to inform they were familiar with Young and that he drove a white jeep. This led the Roanoke police to look for the white jeep. What if he hadn't committed this second crime? Would the Roanoke police have ever looked for the white jeep even though now we know that several tips came in about it? Why did it take the Floyd County police to tell the Roanoke police about Young and their knowledge of him driving a white jeep? Why did the poor woman at the grocery store who was run down and beat with a stick on 1/30 have to suffer because of an arrogant, ignorant dispatcher who took the law into his hands and chose NOT to pass on the information of the 911 call at 11 a.m. on 1/28?

3. Who has been enabling this Young character? Who

pays his bills? Who provides a car for him? Who pays his insurance? Who pays his gas? Who pays for the maintenance of his car? Why does he have so much time on his hands? Why wasn't this questioned by the Roanoke police during the 11 contacts they had with him as very unusual to be out all hours of the day and night with nothing to do for several days in a row?

Was the registration of the jee, p in HIS name? Does he have a valid driver's license? Did the Roanoke police check anything about him? Why couldn't the Roanoke police pick up on the fact that Young was mentally deranged? How could they think it was normal behavior to sit for days on end in the Roanoke area, parked in the same spot, glaring at everyone? What else did the Roanoke police have going that they couldn't have monitored this mentally deranged Young, instead of letting him go and waiting for a tragedy to happen?

I want answers and I will not quit pursuing finding answers until I get the truth. The Roanoke police let an unsuspecting, law abiding, asset to the community get MURDERED and THEY could have prevented it. I wonder if any of the Roanoke police force has given that any thought.

Thank you for listening.

This is in response to the issue of "Should illegal immigrants be allowed to attend Virginia's colleges?" My question would be that if someone knows they're ", illegal immigrants" what are they still doing here? If this country doesn't start treating these people exactly as what they are eventually the American citizens are going to be fighting just so we have rights. It is almost getting to that point now. How could an illegal immigrant be attending a college anyway. What has happened to our judicial system? We are in other countries trying to help them become like us. I believe we need to take a step back a,, nd decide what our country has become before we worry about making others so much like us.

Last night the inaccurate and opinionated piece on Alleghany County businessman, Tommy Garten, reveals two things about Channel 7 News. First of all, it is out of touch when it comes to communities other than Roanoke and secondly it is another example of the media sensationalizing and distorting the misfortunes of others in order to gain an audience. The ad placed by the Gartens' was not mocking the federal government - it was a statement to show the community that the mean-spirited and ridiculous rumors that were being spread by jealous and misinformed people were not being taken seriously by the Garten family. Please leave your opinions out of future news reports.

Too bad that Tanya Bane was not granted bail in her battle against charges of involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect. Seems like many "doctors" and "mothers" outright kill their children and we call it abortion......everything is OK......no bail....no problem! I DARE News 7 to print this - of course you won't - political correction takes the high....er....LOW road!

You ran a story on January 29, 2008 in reference to Kevin Wayne Barker, seargent with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's department, being placed on administrative leave due to being charged with assault and battery on a family member. Please let it be known that Kevin Barker is a hard working, family oriented, law abiding citizen of Pittsylvania county that would give his shirt off his back to anyone. Everyone needs to remember there are two sides to every story and more to this story than anyone knows.

Regarding story about what pregnant women should avoid:

When kitty litter is mentioned in this story, I find it misleading: it's not the kitty litter that causes problems for pregnant women, but the cat's stool. Women should not change , the dirty litter box when pregnant if possible; but they should also be careful when working in dirt outside (like for gardening) where cats might also go to the bathroom. I have never heard of any danger to the kitty litter itself.

I am sick to my stomach from hearing about the Virginia Tech shooting. There has been something on the news just about every day since it has happened. It's time to let sleeping dogs lie. Every time a report is done on this, it's like pouring salt into an old wound. Then it is reported that there were only 32 victims. Actually there was 33. If something had been done, then maybe none of this would have happened. It isn't the private sellers fault. When Cho bought his gun, even though he had a mental problem, which wasn't reported, he wasn't on the list for mental problems. The private sellers didn't twist Cho's arm to purchase a gun, and they definitely didn't tell him, "Now go out there and shoot someone." Put blame where blame is due. Blame the system not the private sellers. Even if the Loophole Bill passes, there will still be people buying guns from the black market.

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

Your health segment last night and this morning said cat litter is dangerous for pregnant women. However, that is misleading. It is used cat litter that can cause the problem of toxoplasmosis. New/unused litter , does not cause this disease. Cats are common carriers, though, and fecal matter from them can transfer the parasite. Undercooked meat is a more common transfer method, however.

Thank you.

Just my 2 cents worth but I cannot figure out why these people are going after the gun shows in defense of what happened at va tech. The killer did not get his guns from a gun show or from a non dealer he purchased them from dealers. My personal belief is had the professors there been able to carry a gun there would have been far less killing,s..

if the next crazed killer uses a hammer are people gonna come out against lowes & home dep, ot??

Something worth considering huh.

I am a long time listener to WDBJ7 News. I understand that you must report the news, but, I wish you would do it more accurately and with more thought on the subject that you are reporting.

Some groups are using the Virginia Tech tragedy as an emotional ploy to pass yet more gun control legislation. The word "loophole" used in your reporting of private citizens selling firearms at gun shows makes the entire legal process and required background checks by dealers look somewhat shady.

I can assure you, as a firearms dealer, that the process of legally purchasing a firearm WORKS! Our second amendment rights did not come cheaply. Countless young men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice to uphold our constitutional right to own and bear firearms. The unlawful actions a few should not remove the rights of the law abiding American citizens of this great land.

If this new legislation is passed, will just create additional "kill zones" for those who choose to commit unlawful acts with firearms. These kill zones are documented in many past shootings through out our country where good law abiding citizens could not defend themselves and where made victims in a criminal shooting.

The Virginia Tech buzz that is going on right now to help these liberal laws go into effect is, as I said before, an emotional ploy to make people think that guns; not evil people, are the problem. If you just stop and reason for one-second, you would realize, that the Virginia Tech shooting was not caused by the lack of gun laws; it was caused by the lack of someone's' responsibility to put the shooter on the national background check system. Also, the fact that schools are no carry zones invites tragedies like this to happen. If only one law abiding citizen in that Virginia Tech classroom had been carrying, I would dare say that the amount of useless deaths would have been far less.

Please try in the future to correctly report the news. To do so, you must first have a more complete understanding on the subject that you are reporting and leave the emotional issues out. They only cloud the truth.

Thank You,

Thank you for your report on our new addiction recovery program. It was well done.

Between your broadcast on Friday evening and the start of our program at 7:00 p.m. we had 3 or 4 phone calls to our info line. Since then we have had another half dozen.

One man was out of work sick on Friday. He was fretting over not being at work and not receiving pay for that day. Nonetheless, because he was not out working he was home to see the news. This was very unusual for him. He saw the spot on Reformers Unanimous and called the number. He came, received help, is continuing in the program thus far and has a sense of hope that he can break free from that with which he has been struggling.

Thank you for making a difference and helping us help others.

After reading some of the feedback I realize that I am not the only one. I am so sick of Channel 7 I think I'll be forced to either watch 10 or 13 or no news at all. Tech, Tech,Tech Please give it a break!!! That's all you guys do, If nothing happened at Va. Tech then Channel 7 wouldn't have a program. Is there not any thing happening in this State, country that is NEWS! I do not give a crap about what goes on at Va. Tech 24/7. Even the smallest Va. Tech thing brings head, line news to Channel 7 I am so sick of it. My question to the WDBJ staff is: Are there any other schools in the VIEWING area That deserves a little coverage. The tragedy at Tech was heartbreaking but my thoughts are this. It is now time to move on We will never forget with or wit, hout the help of WDBJ but hearing every night VA Tech this And Tech That is getting old and so frustrating that I will soon be a WDBJ fan no more!!!!! Please find some real news happening somewhere besides VA TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been watching and listening to your coverage of the current General Assembly session and our Governor's proposals. You continue to report something that is impossible. I keep hearing about "private dealers" that sell guns at gun shows. I know with certainty that there is no such thing as a "private dealer". A short phone call to the BATF would confirm this for you.

Read the long list of restaurants which have failed in the Roanoke Valley over the years in an increasingly competitive market. ,Who thinks that once the novelty wears off that people will sustain one on Mill Mountain? Think .. Dark winding road, bad weather, price of gas, non tourist season, and visitors in lodging in town for just a day or two trying to find it??? It is easy to SAY it sounds good but will those polled actually GO enough to keep it open??? The new definition of progress is NOT building just because you can.

We have just finished watching the sixoclock news I wanted to remind you of something you obviously have forgotten . I bet that you didn't know that WDBJ7 is covering the Virginia game tomorrow at 1pm. Yes there is a large university in Virginia called University of Virginia . Does the name ring a bell. You sure couldn't tell it from the news tonight. Two segments for Virginia Tech.Nothing for Virginia . You don't think favortitism would be happening on channel 7 do you? There are quite a few Virginia fans in the Roanoke area who don't appreciate what you did. Do you have to be a Tech fan to get coverage. I guess you are only our hometown station as long as we pull for tech . My only hope is that someday you will get a staff at channel 7 who realises that Virginia Tech is not the whole world . There are other schools in Virginia who deserve to be reconized too. Too bad channel 7 invested millions into that digital broadcast center in Roanoke,You should have built it in Blacksburg.

I have always enjoyed the Christmas greetings you air from our troops overseas. This year was more special because one them is my grandson, Pvt. William Owen stationed in Darmstadt, Germany.

Thank you for airing these greetings. They mean so much.
