Eight additional counties in Virginia have received federal drought disaster status. Today, Governor Tim Kaine announced that the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture has granted aid to Bedford, Buckingham, Caroline, Charlotte, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Halifax, and Page counties.
Those counties have been designated primary natural disaster areas due to drought and high temperatures that began January 1st of this year. This means farmers will be eligible for low-interest loans and supplemental relief that may be provided by Congress.
