The staff at Mill Mountain Zoo was all smiles Tuesday. Crowe Incorporated agreed to sponsor the new crow exhibit. The zoo is happy to be getting the money and the visitors.
There has been plenty of activity at the zoo these days. The staff is getting ready to build a playground and a new children's barn near the entrance. Visitors will be able to pet and feed animals there. The staff hopes these enhancements will help the zoo's re-accreditation.
They realized they need more than just new exhibits. The zoo brought in a consultant this week from Jacksonville. They have also asked the city of Roanoke for nearly a million dollars. The zoo should know in a few weeks whether it will get any financial help.
In the meantime, a huge fundraiser is planned to help bring in much needed cash. During the fundraiser, which takes place at the Shenandoah Club, the zoo will auction off bronze statues of Ruby.
