Lawmakers hear several recommendations for new state song

Virginia lawmakers heard several recommendations for a new state song today.

Thomas DeBusk performed his song, "Cradle of Liberty", for members of the House Rules Committee.  Delegates also heard a copy of a song by Giles County native Lester Ray Sears called, "Virginia".

It's been a decade since the legislature retired the Commonwealth's old state song, "Carry Me Back to Old Virginia".  Senator Emmett Hanger has been spear-heading efforts to adopt a new song.  He has received dozens of entries.
