Chairman of Virginia's Republican Party steps down

As the primaries wrap up, the chairman of Virginia's Republican Party is stepping down.

Ed Gillespie only chaired the party for about six months.  Reports indicate the Washington lobbyist is taking a job as counselor to President Bush.  Gillespie is a former chairman of the Republican National Committee.  He used his connections to help Virginia's GOP beef up its coffers.

Gillespie served as consultant to Senator George Allen's presidential campaign, until Allen lost his senate seat to Jim Webb.
