Many came in support of the causeOne stitch at a time, a message of healing is being sewn together for the families of the Virginia Tech victims.
People from all over the world knit together orange and maroon squares. On Saturday, knitters in Blacksburg started piecing each one together to be given as blankets to the 32 families who lost loved ones.
Knitters say each blanket takes several hours to complete but they call the work a labor of love.
"We just hope that they know that we care and that we will never forget. And that we're trying to heal too and we want to give them something that lets them know that we care about them and their family," said Gina Bonomo of the Mosaic Yarn Shop.
Knitters with the Hokie Healing Project expect to assemble about 100 blankets. They also want to also send one to those wounded and injured.
