Pastor William ColemanSunday services were anything but normal Sunday morning at the Cross Road Baptist Church. On Saturday, a fire ransacked much of the building. The church is located off Route 24 in Campbell County.
Pastor William Coleman tells us investigators believe at this point the fire may have started from a lightning bolt that hit an outside power source.
"I believe these things happen to make us stronger to increase our faith and trust in God. I feel it's going to make us stronger . It hurts to look at," said Pastor Coleman.
The heat and intensity of the flames destroyed equipment and furniture on the inside, while a plume of smoke engulfed the outside.
"It was like smoke was coming from every crack and corner that you could find. Smoke was just billowing out of the church," said Rufus Knight, a church member.
The church did hold services in the parking lot Sunday morning. Church officials say it could be six months before everything is repaired.
