Roanoke County school officials said this morning that one Northside High School student is being treated for MRSA, a drug-resistant type of staph infection. Letters are being sent home to Northside parents advising them of the situation.
It was discovered last week that a handful of football players had skin infections. The initial follow-up word was that none of the students had MRSA, but we are now told at least one of them does. The student is currently being treated and is not in school.
The school system maintains other students are not at risk. Now Northside is not alone, a high school in Campbell County also reported a case of MRSA this week.
