
Northside High School will be open Monday, according to Roanoke County school officials. They also said tonight's football game between Northside and Salem will take place as scheduled.
In a news release late this morning, the school system said tests taken Thursday afternoon showed "no risk of asbestos exposure for students or staff." The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has determined it is safe to enter the building.
The news release quotes superintendent Lorraine Lange as saying "we wouldn't let students or staff back in the building if it wasn't safe."
A meeting for Northside High School parents and students has been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Sunday in the Northside Middle School auditorium.
Construction crews found asbestos in the library earlier this week. The library has been closed this school year while a renovation project is underway. Asbestos was also found over the summer. Crews thought they had removed it all before school started.
