You could say things are on the move at the Blue Ridge Farm Museum at Ferrum College. But this move is anything but typical.
A barn built in 1814 is getting ready to move 500 feet across the property.
"The idea is to relocate the farmstead to the opposite side of the creek," says Al Anderson, contractor of project.
It's part one of a two-phase renovation that will eventually include moving the farm house, kitchen, smokehouse and blacksmith's shop.
Anderson says each building arrived here more than 25 years ago from other places in Franklin County.
All the pieces come together to represent a Virginia German farmstead from the early 1800s.
The Prillaman barn, originally from Callaway, is the first to be moved.
Workers will put dollies underneath the barn and hook a tractor up to it. They will then drive it across the creek, setting it on a new foundation.
"If everything goes well, it will be very slow motion and [a] very boring move," says Anderson.
The move will take place on Thursday.
