People drive from miles around to visit a book store near Staunton.  From Fredericks to Florida, perhaps it's the discount prices that bring people to Green Valley Book Fair.

Some of their hardcover books retail for $30 or more, but only cost about $5 at the store.  The large selection could also be what draws in customers.  The store has everything from children's books and cookbooks, to fiction and history.

Co-manager Michael Evans' parents held the first book fair in an old barn on the property in 1971.

"They set up tables and loaded them down with used books and did it as a weekend event," says Evans.

Since then, it's grown to 25,000 square feet.  Now, 500,000 volumes of new books fill three floors. With over 20,000 titles, there's something for all ages.

"They have just about everything you can possibly imagine and things that you can't find anyplace else," says Waynesboro resident Diane Heavner.

One thing you won't find are the current best-sellers.  But make no mistake, fair managers consider the store's wide selection its strength.

"It's sort of the icing on the cake," says Evans.  "When you pick up that book that you're interested in that you never knew existed, the price is right."
