Although the deadline has come and gone for people to register in person, you can still do it by mail, as long as it's postmarked with Monday's date.
In Roanoke, a steady stream of people tried to beat the deadline. While some stopped by, others called to make sure everything was in line.
"This is a record. Last presidential election, we had about 56,000, 55,000, but we're already over 60,000" said Odessa King, Roanoke's assistant registrar.
In Salem, it was much of the same.
