Thousands of people stood in a line that wrapped around furniture store Shewls in Roanoke. Some looking for bargains, but most were waiting to meet professional wrestling legend Ric Flair.

After surviving a 1975 plane crash, Flair's career first reached main event status while making frequent stops in Roanoke with Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling.

"Roanoke is one of the best wrestling towns for a smaller town than anywhere in the country," said Flair.

After 35 years and many world titles, Flair retired in March from wrestling and left the WWE a few months later.

Still at the age of 59, retirement hasn't put the Hall of Famer in a rocking chair. This week he is shooting the pilot for a new reality show in addition to more public appearances across the country to meet the fans.

"It's something new for me. I'm really enjoying it. It's something I've never really done, taking time to say "Hi" to fans," said Flair. "It's a lot of fun for me."
