A Salem educator is preparing for a great adventure.
Superintendent Alan Seibert is part of a delegation from the Virginia Association of Superintendents heading to India. The group will be leaving the day after Thanksgiving and returning December 8.
In the meantime, Seibert has been visiting elementary schools around Salem with an informal program called "Where in the World is Dr. Seibert?"
The superintendent has been sharing India's culture and customs, but he was surprised by how much the third graders at GW Carver already knew.
"I'm very pleased how much they know about the globe and other cultures, and how deeply they thought. I thought the depth of their questions showed how bright they were," said Seibert.
The trip will be paid for by the Salem Rotary, local businesses and an anonymous business leader.
Henry County School Superintendent Sharon Dodson will also be making the trip.
