Radford University officially welcomed its sixth president this afternoon. Penny Kyle was inaugurated as the schools first ever female leader.
Serenaded by bag pipes, Kyle got the standard Highlander welcome on inauguration day. Beaming, she followed behind a flag for every student from a foreign country represented at RU.
Hundreds came out to watch as Governor Tim Kaine placed the President's Medallion around her neck.
Kyle told the crowd she would lead Radford into a future that included more public service to Southwest Virginia and more students studying abroad.
She also wants Radford to stay affordable.
Kyle says she wants to share the highlander message around Virginia, the nation and the world.
