The City of Roanoke and the Roanoke Arts Commission unveiled a sculpture Wednesday at the Roanoke Civic Center.

It's 30 feet tall and celebrates Roanoke's 125th anniversary.  It's called "In my hands," playing off the city's anniversary theme of people, pride and promise.

The whole idea is to draw attention to the city's Public Art Program, giving everyone a chance to appreciate art.  Of course, it's in front of a facility that's known for different expressions of art, whether it's Broadway plays or exhibits.

And to top it off, the artist commissioned to do the sculpture studied at Virginia Tech, so he's no stranger to Virginia.

Eight other pieces of work will be unveiled over the next three weeks.  People will have a year and a half to check them out.
