A Christiansburg boy is making a name for himself as a young inventor.

12-year-old Jared Mann entered his Power Tree invention into the Rubber Band contest and won third place.

The device makes use of rubber bands to generate electricity from low speed winds.

The competition was sponsored by the Alliance Rubber Company, and Mann took home a $2500  savings bond and a $500 gift certificate.

Mann's other invention this year, the Pop-up Solar Cooker Book, took 15th place of 2200 entries in the Bubble Wrap Competition for Young Inventors.
