Orlando's website that promotes the downtown core's entertainment, business, and life in the City Beautiful is about to get more personal and mobile.
Officials at Orlando-based website development company Solodev today announced they were awarded a three-year $76,000 contract from the Downtown Development Board to enhance and manage DowntownOrlando.com.
"Essentially, there will be a new design, but we will initially improve the site with more GIS mapping so visitors can locate downtown businesses more effectively," said Solodev founder Shawn Moore. The site will also be redesigned as a responsive website, which shapes itself to the screens of all personal computers and mobile devices. As more people carry mobile devices, many organizations, businesses, and government entities turn to responsive websites because they only have to design one site for all devices.
Moore also said DowntownOrlando.com will soon feature custom Facebook integration to drive social media traffic and real visitors to downtown Orlando restaurants and other businesses.
The site is currently managed by city officials.
Moore said the enhancements will roll out throughout the year with monthly improvements.
Solodev, located in Orlando's ViMi District, in 2012 launched a redesign of Filmorlando.com, the website for the Metro Orlando Film Commission, a division of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission.
Developers at Solodev have also worked with government agencies in Volusia and Flagler counties, as well as Miami Beach.
