The grand total for the 2011 United Way of Roanoke Valley campaign was $6.14 million. That's almost $100,000 more from the previous year.
The non-profit thanked its volunteers and participants at its annual luncheon Wednesday afternoon. Close to 350 companies throughout the Valley participated in the Live United campaign. Kroger Mid-Atlantic took home the top award for best overall job for supporting the community and providing sponsorship.
The millions of dollars raised through corporate and individual contributions goes back into the community, benefiting programs that focus on education, income and health.
