Cell Phones for Soldiers offers soldiers the chance to talk to their families without the cost. The organization collects used cell phones and sends them to ReCellular, who then gives Cell Phones for Soldiers money for prepaid calling cards. Each donated phone is worth an hour of calling cards.
Since the organization began in 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers has raised almost $2 million dollars in donations and has donated over 500,000 prepaid calling cards to the soldiers.
