Justin Ward is the New River Valley Bureau Chief and he’s no stranger to the WDBJ7 viewing area. He was born and raised just a few miles away in Christiansburg.
Before joining the news team in April 2011, Justin started his reporting career as a bureau reporter in Beckley, West Virginia, for WVVA in Bluefield, WV. This isn’t his first time working in the WDBJ7 newsroom. After earning a degree in Media Studies and Political Science from Radford University, he became an associate producer at WDBJ.
While in college, Justin interned at a variety of local news and network news organizations including WVVA. One of those landed Justin at the CBS Bureau in Washington, D.C., working with the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. There he learned the trade from professionals like Bob Scheiffer, Lara Logan, Harry Smith and several other correspondents and producers. Whether it was following reporters through the east room in the White House or down the halls of the U.S. Capitol building, there was something about journalism that he couldn’t let go.
Justin is glad to be home once again reporting for Your Hometown News Leader. When he’s not reporting, Justin isn’t far from friends, exploring new territory, enjoying a good laugh or watching Hokie and Highlander sports.
