Raised in Florida, the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons fueled Ian’s interest in weather.
Born and raised near Tampa, Florida, Ian was all too familiar with summer storms, lots of humidity, and hurricanes. During the historically active 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, he became engrossed in watching local TV meteorologists stand with a mic in hand with winds blowing them sideways.
From then on, Ian’s interest in weather only grew. He graduated from Florida State University in 2015 with a B.S. in Meteorology. After an internship at his favorite TV station in Tampa, WFLA, he fully realized he wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist.
The summer after graduating FSU, Ian began his career in Topeka, Kansas. There he gained invaluable experience in forecasting severe weather and all that the Central Plains threw at him. His most memorable experience was having to break in to cover a tornado warning for nearly 30 minutes by himself.
Ian is thrilled to be part of the WDBJ7 Weather Team and call Roanoke home. He enjoys the outdoors, going to the movies, and eating good food. He asks that you send him any suggestions for places to eat or hike! Catch him every weekend in the 6 and 11 PM shows, and weekdays on WDBJ7 at Noon.
