11 injured in house fire in Roanoke Sunday

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire in the 1500 block of Melrose Ave. Sunday morning. The call came in at approximately 8:45 a.m.

13 people were inside of the house when the fire started.

Three adults and five children were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. One adult and two children were transported in their personal vehicle. Two people were treated on scene and released.

Most injuries were from jumping off of the porch roof and some for smoke inhalation.

The home did have working smoke alarms and alerted the residents.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been by a wood stove, but, is still under investigation; and damage estimates are unknown at this time.
