16-year-old girl dead after shooting in Danville

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE

A Candlelight Vigil will be held tonight for the 16-year-old girl that died after an early morning shooting.

The Vigil will be at Doyle Thomas Park in Danville at 7:30 p.m.

There is no new information on the case at this time.

The Danville Police Department says a 16-year-old female is dead after an early morning shooting.

Officers say just before 3 a.m., they responded to calls of shots fired near Paxton St.

At the same time, the teenage girl arrived at Danville Regional Medical Center by a personal vehicle. She had been shot, and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Her body will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. Her name will not be released because of her age.
