Lynchburg resident Raymond Wood was 17 years old. A relative told WDBJ7's Tim Saunders that Wood was a junior at Heritage High School.

Deputies have not made any arrests in this homicide investigation but say they do not believe there is a danger to the public. Several people are detained. It's possible that they may be charged later, but for now they are just being questioned.

The investigation in Lynchburg regarding an abduction is related to this homicide investigation, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

A passerby called authorities around 9:30 p.m. on Monday to alert them of a body in the middle of Roaring Run Road.

Deputies did not find any identification on the victim, later identified as Wood. The body was sent to the medical examiner's office so experts could identify him and work to determine a cause of death.

The office would not comment on a possible cause of death at this time.

Out of caution, five Bedford County schools were placed on lockdown on Tuesday in connection to this incident.
