BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Spirit of Tech is setting its expectations high as the band attempts to collect one can of food from every Hokie fan at this weekend's last home football game.

The Marching Virginians is teaming with the New Life Christian Fellowship to sponsor a massive can food drive.

Hokies for the Hungry is now in its 21st year. Organizers hope to collect more than 66 thousand cans from fans as Virginia Tech takes on Pittsburgh this Saturday.

"A big part of what we do is we embody the spirit of tech and the ideals of Ut Prosim are embodied with us as well. So any time we get an opportunity to reach out to the community and help out we try to do as much as we can," said Eric Chang, one of two drum majors for the Marching Virginians.

All donations go to the Montgomery County Christmas Store to help people in need in the area. The band members hope they can reach their goal this year.

"Especially because it's our band director's last year serving as the band director for the Marching Virginians and so we're really putting in everything we got to make it the biggest one yet," said Jenna Sharer, a drum major for the Marching Virginians.
