ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Radford University is honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Junior through it's 4th Annual Day of Service. A few volunteers made it to the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Virginia.
"It's exciting we always do something new every year. You don't know what you are going to be assigned to. So the anticipation of figuring out where you are going to go and how you are going to help the community is a good thing," Lyric Robert, a Radford University student, said.
Out of 300 Radford University volunteers, Roberts and three others came to help Boys and Girls Club. The Radford students cleaned various rooms in the center and Community High School students painted walls.
Director Calvin Curry said it will make a difference.
"They'll ask questions, who came by, how was this done. The kids appreciate it," Curry said.
Over 100 students will return tomorrow after school to see the clean class rooms and freshly painted walls.
"Coming in here into a clean space could definitely lift someones mood," Roberts said.
