SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7)-- GE Power confirmed Tuesday that the company has eliminated 42 hourly positions at its Salem plant.
The reductions confirmed Tuesday are permanent, according to General Electric spokesperson MB Hodgkiss.
Prior to the recent layoff, 572 people were working at the plant. 295 workers were salaried and 277 were hourly.
Hodgkiss said a total of 530 people are now employed at the facility.
