5-year-old girl recovering after being shot by stray bullet in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- A 5-year-old girl is recovering after police say she was hit by a stray bullet Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to a shots fired call around Taylor Street near Knight Street just before 5:30 p.m.

Detectives were later sent out to the Lynchburg General Emergency Room where the girl was being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

She has been released from the hospital.

Authorities do not believe her home was targeted.
