ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Downtown Roanoke will keep changing as AEP begins work on its newest project.
Wednesday, the company broke ground on a new parking garage. It's part of their 2017 announcement to bring 200 more jobs to its Roanoke Office Building. The garage will be built across the street from AEP's current facility. A company spokesperson says they made sure the new garage would fall in line with downtown's architecture.
John Shepelwich with AEP, said, "We wanted to make sure that everything fit. We didn't want just an oddball cinderblock structure out here."
The 90,000 square foot garage will be able to park about 260 cars. They plan to complete the project by spring 2019.
