ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport is getting an upgrade, new jet bridges that passengers will use to board their flights.
Work has started on the first gate to get the new equipment.
We watched Tuesday morning as a crane lifted the first piece into place.
"We're getting five bridges added here," said Timothy Bradshaw, the airport's executive director. "Got to remember the terminal is approaching its 30 year anniversary. And the jet bridges are original to when the terminal was constructed."
Three and a half million dollars in federal funding will pay for the new jet bridges. The work should be completed over the next several weeks.
